DTCharlieB said: Is it really that bad to be a functioning addict. To hold down a good job and pay your bills on time and put a little money away here and there? Society says your a piece of scum, but what's wrong with feeling good while your doing a hard days work? Doctors give pills to people to make them less depressed or to help with anxiety or to help with pain. Are those people addicts?
Can doing drugs everyday while maintaining a productive lifestyle only lead down a path of destruction? Well? Can it?
It can only last so long before it catches up with you. As time goes on you will need more and more of your DOC and at the same time your body will lose it's ability to handle it while still functioning enough to effectively hold down a job to fund your addiction. Once you are unable to be an active member of the legitimate workforce you will be forced to turn to illegal means to support your habit.
And the next thing you know...

I do agree with you. I just like playing devils advocate sometimes.
Yes it would be nice to wake up at 5 am. Drink a coffee take a motrin. Get to the jobsite at 530 or 6. Work for 8 to 12 hours doing backbreaking labor a doctor says I should stop doing but I won't because the money is too good. Come home take another motrin, go to my kids baseball game or play with one or the other kid for a few hours. Hit the sack at 830 and repeat.
American dream?

That may be the case as of now, but the point I was making was like a snowball effect. I'm not trying to be "That Guy" but I have been around the block enough to have seen it happen plenty of times to others as well as to me. Just a heads up but not a lecture

I get ya man. I'm actually slowing down alot. I go days here and there without doing any substance. I k ow what your saying it's a slippery slope. And to tell you the truth I'm trying to get off it comepletley. It's gonna be hard due to the physical nature of what I do but it's better to put up with a little bit of pain then to be completely dependant on some sunstance.
And your right it happens all the time. not only with drugs but gambling too I've seen it take down some pretty well off people. I think you just have to have your priorities I'm the right place and things should hopefully work out.
I appreciate what your saying and I do agree with you.

I dont think there is anything inherently wrong with being an addict (either functional or whatever) but like what is stated above. You will never be free. You can never just go anywhere without worrying about your next hit.
When I kicked my canabis addiction the sense of liberation was amazing. On the other hand, having just one main concern makes life easy. Running a job/family is a lot of hard work and sometimes you just dont want to care about it you know.
Those times I eat some spacecake and zone out on the couch but I have to actively fight the urge to do it again the next day and the day after. Even though I quit smoking weed over 6 years ago I still have unhealthy tendencies concerning that particular substance. I also had to relearn how to enjoy things sober.
Yoga and meditation really helped me to appreciate the joy of just being alive

I think it's super ironic that the people that are suppose to be taking care of you shove highly addictive narcotics down your throat and call it a fix. I saw a video of women who was prescribed 20 oxy 80's a day. Who in their right mind would think that's a good idea? It's sickening
