Mist your cakes directly... don't bother misting the walls of your fruiting chamber, I've tried that before and I just can't get the damb walls to grow... lol... shoot a picture of your fruiting chamber.

Awesome thank you for the tip! Hopefully that's the problem because I've been trying to keep the misting away from the cakes....

Here's the chamber:

since it's hard to see in the image, there's nine holes on the two broader sides of the FC and six holes on the smaller sides. Also holes on the bottom. I'm not entirely happy with how many holes there are but I made the chamber in a rush before work.

I'd probably double the amount of holes you have given their big size, and if none of your cakes are under quarantine put them all in the same fruiting chamber... they help keep the climate right when they are together... (someone chime in if I'm wrong)

Doesnt look like you dunked and rolled i would highly recomend it the dunking rehydrates your cake and allows for a much larger flush and rolling in dry verm will provide a nice protective layer that protects from direct water damage also is that black on the top of that cake that might be black mold... :ohwell:

SGFC is called A sgfc because it looks like it was blasted with tons of bb's. You need more holes. Smaller ones. Laid out in a grid fashion.

Also dunking and rolling will help retain moisture.

Dunking might be the fastest most efficiant way to save that cake...

I'd do a dunk, also zuto is right, that black spot is kinda suspicious. Can we get a better picture of that just in case?

Oh and zuto, Happy one month on the shroomery!

Thank you ever so much im quite happy to be a part of this community its great and ive learned so much!! You guys have been so helpful and nice (the guys in off topic discussion are a little rough but i love em nontheless haha) and with time i hope to contribute lots as well!!

Also OP make sure your perlite is feild capacity and you have holes on all 6 sides of your sgfc if your perlite is not holding enough moisture it will steal it from your cake!! i learned this the hard  way if you wanna make sure just pop your cake out and run water through your sgfc and until it drains out the bottom holes and leave it for 30 min boom your perlite is feild capacity somebody correct me if im wrong but this is how i did it and it seems to be working =)

Edit: make sure your sgfc is not touching the ground while its draining ie have it hoisted just as you would if your cake was in it and you can do this while your cake is dunking make sure it dunks for at least 12 hr 24hr is the best though =)

Thanks for the advice everybody. No need to worry about the "black" spot on top because it's actually some blue bruising. I skipped the dunk and roll for the first go around since I don't have the proper equipment for it at the moment and I'm currently struggling with monies because my job is going through a slow period :/

As for the holes, I certainly will add more, but the cakes/holes actually aren't big at all; the chamber is little.

The cake is actually already looking slightly better now that I'm properly misting them. Thanks again!

Dont have the money or equipment to dunk all you need is water a cup and something to keep the cake submergered and little bit of creativity... I use a pickle jar with a nice shoulder and a lid but here are some ideas for you

*a large cup or cereal bowl with water and a book/tin foil/plastic wrap took keep the cake submerged

*A larger jar (than your cake) with a lid

*a sink and a large bowl

*a tubbaware container w/lid

Just to name a few it doesnt take money just a little creativity and patience

Also regardless of the cake or fc size the holes should be 1/4 in and in a 2in x 2in grid across all 6 sides and if anything a smaller chamber might need more holes closer togather since its size will likey build up CO2 quicker than a bigger one...

The roll you can get away without but if i were you i would dunk that cake the mushies will love you for it and it will have almost immediate effects in bringin that cake to life... But either way you got this you know what to do and you have the knowledge now go forth and may the shrooms be with you

I saw no holes in that SGFC below the perlite level. Those holes need to be everywhere, especially below the perlite. OP did say he has holes in the bottom but likely not enough. The bottom holes are the most important.

When I do a dunk, I just use a plastic bag and fill it with water. Then I squeeze of the air from the bag until it's only water and store for the amount I'm dunking.

Whoops didn't realize the holes were supposed to be under the perlite line too. Thanks for catching that. I'll work on them modifications.

Also, I'd like to mention that the dry cake smells slightly different from the fresh cake I put in. If it's just a slight smell, should I be worried about contamination or is the cake just a little old and dry? I scrapped it with a q-tip and it seemed like the mycelium was scraping off minorly a bit (flaking off) but maybe it's just dry? It only seems slightly discolored towards light brownish (the cake as a whole)

Dunk it bro seriously... You need to rehydrate that cake even if you do get a flush off it as is it will produce weak strandy mushrooms remember mushies are 90% wwater if the cake is dehydrated your shrooms will suffer...
