Day 10 Ecuador Mono
#21727988 - 05/27/15 09:43 AM (8 years, 8 months ago) |
|

Its CVG prepared in mudafucka's bucket TEK
Ratio 1:2 spawn to sub
Spawn prepped on wheat kernels
Temp is at 78.4F
Hows it looking?
I'm a little worried that it's colonizing so slow. Still has that sour smell to it.

I don't know, Mad and PPP are pretty reliable users. I trust their judgement.
Is there any hope for that tub? It looks like it is colonizing but slowly. I don't know if I should leave it and see what happens or just toss it.

Yeah fruit that now man. Especially if it has a funky smell to it. If there is contams present you might aswell get that first flush out of it, and hopefully whatever it is won't kamikaze your tub before the second.
I definitely wouldn't toss that unless the smell coming from it was very strong. It looks odd to me but I'm not sure if that's because of your substrate or what? I don't personally recognize any gnarly contam on that, so yeah, don't throw it out.
Do you have other tubs in the room? if you do than that might be the only thing warranting you to toss it, or atleast quarantine from the rest.
*edit* it definitely looks ready for a fruiting conditions anyways, I usually wait for knots but if there are possible contams and no open sub left just go at it now.

Fruit which tub? B+ or Ecuador? Or both?
The B+ is in the same room as the Ecuador tub. Not next to each other, about 20inches apart? The sour smell is faint when opening the mono. I don't notice any contam at all. I thought I had cobweb for a second but I was told it was myc and that it looks good.

Ohh sorry OP, I didn't realize those were different tubs, I thought the second set of pictures was an update from the first. That second one is definitely ready to fruit.
The first, you'd have to take someone elses advice on. I personally wouldn't fruit that because of all the uncolonized substrate, you'd be helping the contams get a foothold. Usually if contams are present a substrate will pin before it's fully colonized, and if you see that happen, you might aswell start fruiting it.
*edit* hopefully you're not opening the one that isn't fully colonized a bunch either, that's a no no lol

I'd just wait that out until fully colonized. ..or until it starts to fruit itself (hopefully both happen together)...a quarantine might be a smart move just as a precautionary measure...but it looks fine so far (besides the smell I guess)...those pics are two different subs right? Fruit that B+ it looks ready.

That's why I asked cause it isn't fully 100% and was not sure to which tub Bluntsen was referring too
You mean two different tubs? Than yes it is :P I listed their stats and which strain as well on top of the photos but it's easy to miss I guess
Sweet, will go and polyfil that shit
BluntsenBurner I have opened it maybe around 4 times since I fruited it? Just to take pictures and check if the smell is still there. It hasn't increased nor decreased so I think the war for territory is still going on.
How long should I wait exactly before it's too late to fruit?

opening a colonizing tub is fine, nothing to worry about! I wouldn't get my hopes up for the smelly stalling tub, but no harm in keeping it around to see what comes first of mold or fruits..
sometimes people answer purely by looking at the pics, I know I do sometimes, I'm sure both of them agree 10 days, smelly, and looking like that is no good!

Hmmmm... it will either continue to colonize then go into fruiting...start visiblely Losing the battle against an infection and be overcome... or go into emergency fruiting due to a contamination... probably wait for someone more experienced to chime in though... PussyFart might just show up, bitch slap me and say I'm wrong lol.

Thiss^^^ I personally would wait for it to colonize, some times the mycelium wins the war. and if it pins earlier due to contam you can still get fruits out of it. But I would separate them as much as possible if it does show signs of contam.

The war between myc and contam is so ironic towards my life situation right now. Think I'll do just that and wait, this hobby has always been for the patient. Even if I get a couple of fruits, at least I got something out of it, better than wasting
Thanks guys, will keep you updated on the B+

UPDATE ECUADOR
Well the ECUADOR is not doing so great in my opinion as today I found some metabolite drops. I counted them, there are 4 small drops.
I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I consider it a good thing cause a metabolite is an antibiotic response so it may be well on it's way to heal. I also consider it a bad thing cause prevention is better than cure

Also the verm has this reflective sheen to it. Is it just verm or should I be worried about this?
Smell has neither increased nor decrease.
I am thinking of putting into fruiting and getting it over and done with but I dunno. Patience right?
Some photos

UPDATE B+
Meanwhile on a more positive note I have just put the B+ into fruiting conditions today. It is day 12.
I know it's a little late but I got caught up drinking beer and shooting guns at my friend's house and also with uni work
Below is a picture of the setup. I am using an old melamine vivarium which I modified. Covered it with trash bags and added a CFL 6500K coil tube attached to a timer 12hours on and 12hours off.
I know the lid is not the actual tub's lid but I had to work with what I had. The original lid was white and didn't allow enough light to penetrate in. I had glass sheets but I really didn't want to use them as I'd have to fan it out and I am going to visit my family for the next 2 days.
I also put a fan in the room next to the vivarium, pointing away to the opposite wall. That way the air being pushing with the fan would have to bounce 2 walls before hitting the viv. I also let the window in the shaft open and opened the glass doors and placed them infront of the tub so the air would have to come in through the sides instead of directly on it.
