Cannibal agaricus?
    #21726746 - 05/26/15 09:55 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Habitat:in grass on side of road. at the base of a decaying mushroom

Gills: light brown not attached

Stem:3 inches long an inch wide solid
you can see at the bottom some gills and some mature spores on the base of the stem from the mushroom this was growing on right where the plant is coming from.

Cap:3 inches diameter, white, maybe slight yellow bruise, rough, spherical, cracked convex

Spore print color: Waiting...
Very important!

Bruising: not very easy to see.. just slightly darker

Other information: This was growing off of the cap of what looked like a decaying amanita. not sure what it was but it was definately a dead white mushroom

looks like a horse mushroom growing off the stalk it started growing from originally which got damaged.

as far as I know the horse mushroom doesn't grow off of another mushroom.. I don't trust it..

i dont think it is. i think it got a cap knocked off and started growing again.

i've seen (and you can find on here) many mushies which sometimes grow up... then start growing up again.

i think in this case the cap got knocked off... maybe by a lawn mower... the stalk remained and rallied.

there was a whole other mushroom at the base of this one. it was dead and the decaying cap was pressed up against this stem.
the brown you see at the bottom here is the gills of said mushroom.and the dark spot on stem is spores of said matured decaying mushroom.

I left the dead one behind. There's still gills and some spores of the dead one on the stem of the one I picked (brown at the bottom in the picture)

Zoom in on the picture. immediately to the right of the green thing is one gill, you are seeing the edge. I want to ID the one in the pictures not the one it was growing on. right?

only ones with dark enough gills in agaricus are

macrospore

bispor

xanthodermus

pocillator (this isnt it for sure)

moelleri

macrosporus (which is my best guess)

augustus

arvensis (next best guess)

none of the caps are exactly right

shrug i dunno, checked a bunch of guides, still looks like agaricus to me. looks like an albino portabello which lends itself to horse mushroom.

but, i did find one thing in one guide that had pink gills that turned brown... ??? i dunno... that one said it was inedible so dont eat it

i still think its an agaricus but shrug.
