agar to rye. question about lids
    #21725559 - 05/26/15 04:53 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

is it important to leave the lid loose when cultivating rye? with cakes theres is inoculation holes in the lid. this allows some air in during cultivation. if you inoculate a jar from a petri dish there is no hole punched in the lid. do you need to screw the lid on tight? loose? ditch the metal disk and use tyvek? i could find anything in the forums addressing this. please help.

Your lid should have a filter for GE and yes for transfers you will need to take the lid off and then tighten it back on after. This should be done either infront of a flowhood or in a SAB (still air box).

1/4" - 3/8" hole for grain lids. Cover with synthetic filter disc or stuff with polyfil.

If the lid was on loose contams might make their way in.  You need some kind of filter.
