Found on Hay, a lil ID help Please :) EDITED WITH BETTER PICS!!
    #21723724 - 05/26/15 06:35 AM (8 years, 8 months ago)

I EDITED THE PICS AND USED A DIFFERENT CAMERA , SO HOPEFULLY THESE WILL BE MUCH BETTER!

Habitat:

These were growing from a bale of hay which was no where near any cattle or animal dung, absolute shitty, dry and arid soil nearby , tho we had a couple decent rains a few days prior to finding these. They were in Eastern Ky , USA

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Here the pics will just have to speak for themselves..

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

It appears that many of these would have gotten much larger but due to the fact the bales of hay were in direct sunlight and the rains had been a cpl days prior that they had stopped growth in very early stages and basically dried up.

Spore print color: Impossible to print , they dropped nothing as the shrooms had completely dried up and I am assuming all spores had long fallen, an attempted print of one left nothing visible.

Bruising:
none

Other information:
Slightly bitter... tastes similar to cubes, or cyans... definite  an alkaloid taste.. whats in the pics came to a total weight of 5.3 g on the scales... note tho how even the smalest heads extend out from large bulbs whick have root llike structures... the mycelia  has saturated the bales and is snow while... these do not look familiar yet have the magical* look and feel to them.... ideas on what these are anyone???  left four and a a couple small pins in some nice mycelia covered moist straw, soaked them in good quality water and they have gained very notable size in the past twelve hours. The rest were already dried up beyond repair however if these turn out to be of any use whatsoever  I have "plenty" of  material to start and work with. !

I currently have 7 beds going all outside as I type - 2 small cow manure beds about 6 " deep,  1 is about 4x6  and the other is about 6x6.  I have one Huge 9x11 ft horse manure bed about 10 inches deep that is starting to shoot out subbs like crazy... and 4 various sized wood beds.  Currently experimenting with different mixtures and ratios of wood and bark in each bed for my Gym's etc . This my first year ever attempting any kind of fungus grows and I think things are going exceptionally great so far. I will keep you guys periodically up to date with how things are going. Mostly experimenting with Gym species, Pluteus etc... the kind of things I can find no solid info on previous grows , so its all its all touch and go!

Oh I went on a long hunt today and found several unknowns and I we will be looking forward to sharing the pics and describing some ideas I had concerning my first outdoor wood lover grows i've been working on. I have a couple unknown's I will upload later when time permits.. I suspect one of two different specimens to be Plutes "salinicus" (spelling?)  and a cpl questions on some unknown gym's.. There is something about these little fuckers here in these pics tho that just feels different... They don't resemble anything I am aware of that is active, but they damn sure give off that vibe when you touch them...  thanks for the help guys.... peace ya'll.

Gill color and attachment aren't visible in the pictures. Could you perhaps take new pictures with better lighting?

Typically growing on straw are certain species of Coprinopsis, Bolbitius and Deconica. Does not look like a coprinoid
species (from what I can see) so perhaps it could be one of the latter. But as already stated, not much is revealed in
the pictures other than that they are rather tiny mushrooms.

Really? Honestly most of it is in focus, I see far, far worse on a pretty regular basis.

i found this pic  on the "guess this shroom thread "  it is almost identical.. they look virtually identical except for the length of the stems and sheer number in the cluster, both which can be attributed to  weather, growing conditions, substrate etc.. etc.. the only problem is  it was never named.. anyone recognize this ??  It would be a good starting place if i could get a name on this shroom to rule it out as a possible candidate...  as there are tons of these exploding everywhere  and i could have thousands in a couple weeks  if they proved to be anything of value...thanx in advance!

Well I have ruled out my previous assumption on these..  they are most certainly NOT praecox.. however they do have some very similar features to many agrocybe mushrooms.. im attempting a print on foil now..  moved some of the hay into a closed shady space.. moved some into direct sun and watered both heartilly.. the shaded mushrooms came out cream colored and those in the sun very, very tan.. the gill color on these new , not dried up  specimens matches the creamy cap color perfectly...  .. the interior of the stem is hollow but has a secondary inner layer which is slightly darker tan the exterior.. i had two small caps which i tried to print on paper last night but got nothing.. maybe they were too small.. maybe they do not drop spores .. i will find out soon enough.. the largest cluster of these that i have seen has been 4 mushrooms  growing from a single white ,  bulbous base... ..  its just pissing me off i cant pinpoint a proper id on these lil bastards.. btw these new fresh  specimens smell extremely pungent.. very acrid and chemically..  no way this is listed as an edible.. and if so . it must have a footnote no mater the species , that though they may not be poisonous.. they would taste fucking horrendous.. .. peace for now ya'll.. let ya know how the printing goes and take some more pics of some fresher specimens later ..
