Cooooool. That looks right on. Great find!
The stipe looks more similar to the ones that Nevermind finds in Tassie, and less similar to the ones I found in VIC. I am going lib hunting tomorrow. Can't wait! ^_^
Another question, North, South, East or West?

spent another half a day hunting and got nothing, there was single sub that i just had no heart to take home by itself, it did put smile on my face as it was at the very end of the day with sun going down fast. it is funny how when i find some shrooms i don't care about the petrol cost but when i keep coming home with nothing it does sting a little so jealous of guys with the huge bush scores

Hey guys, great finds this year!
I was just wondering, do bush Subs come up later in the season? I went looking in bush areas when I first started Shrooming earlier this month and found nothing until I found some in parks in wood chips.
So excited to find a big patch one day

Thanks man, well I must say your find was what inspired me to come from QLD and go looking for libs with a fellow member (who has more pics including microscopy), and we were lucky to have luck in the first paddock we stopped in. We looked in a similar area to what you described...thinking it might not be cold enough in that area yet...

The bush is weird for me. They're almost always solitary, so it's an easter egg hunt type thing, then when you find a bit of a cluster it does nothing for weeks after picking. Best be seeking wood chipped parks I guess. Not many out here in Gippsland, just a few small parks per, what, 5 significant towns. Going to try the pines and where the pines meet the bush next week.

Personally i find a cross of bush and urban to be perfect - e.g. an area that is deep on a firetrail etc in perfect bush conditions that has had vehicles crush old wood or a large branch fall/people collecting & cutting firewood = perfect combination of habitat and 1000+ strong small patches of fat, large specimens (y). Its not just dumping a good substrate on a big area and expecting them to grow well, its a blend of bush/urban... surely others can relate !
Look for older areas of complete demolishment that come with deforestation for pine plantations, heaps of left over rotting wood = heaps of perfect habitat!

I have found bush subs as late as September 8th, so yes, in the right environments/conditions.

That's fucking awesome. Congratulations, and I'm so stoked to hear that! Interesting that we both got "lucky" finding libs in the first paddock we searched ...

Definitely look like subs to me. Post those pics in mushroom hunting and ID to confirm.
Just by cutting the stems off so you don't rip the mycelium out is the major thing. It appears you have done that so good job. Wait for the caps to open up and the ones you picked look perfect. They would have had time to drop spores and reproduce for next season
Good find mate

ent, I believe your suspicion that libs are more common in Victoria than we realise is starting to gain weight...

Results of my third hunt in a couple of weeks, subs popping up everywhere in my area! I wanted to post some photos of dryer subs that don't look so perfect as my area tends to dry out periodically leaving the shrooms looking a bit tired (just as beautiful though).
Can anyone tell me or have a guess as to what species that HUGE dark shroom is growing amongst the subs? As big as my hand (pictured badly apologies)...

It definitely seems that they could be more common than previously thought... I'm interested to see how far north and thinking I might try around Stanthorpe or Warwick
