Looking For High Quality Psych/Chill/Spirit Music

Can anyone recommend some good instrumental music similar to Shpongle but less manic/giddy. I start listening to one of his albums and it's all going well but then an annoying sample or beat (or both) will come in and ruin it all. I'm looking for something a bit more serious, but still beautiful, magical and mystical. I love a lot of Indian music that I've heard in restaurants and such, but I don't really know where to start in terms of seeking out specific genres/sub-genres by myself. Also I'd like to get into more dub music but again, don't really know where to begin.
Suggestions welcome. Cheers

Check out the rhythm of the saints by paul simon. The album is mostly a tale of his ayauasca experiences back in the 80s. His style definitely has more of a mature feel to it.
Also, if youre into indian style music you should check out ravi shankar.

Hi, try some of Loop Guru's more chilled material, e.g. Catalogue of Desires, Fountains of Paradise or The Third Chamber. Banco de Gaia's second lp Last Train to Lhasa is about as good as it gets. The first track is quite upbeat so don't be put off if it's not immediately what you are after. Possibly my favourite comedown lp. Mystical Experiences by The Infinity Project is also essential and features both Simon Posford and Raja Ram from Shpongle. Definitely check out Whatever Happened to Utopia? by Astralasia. Later albums disappointing but Whatever is a masterpiece. Can't fail to mention Lifeforms by The Future Sound of London. Lastly for now Frozen Ants by Subsurfing will blow your mind. Shame it's the only album they made. Hope this helps. I spent much of the 1990's tripping to these albums and they have greatly enriched my life.

Almost forgot, on the dub side of things the Planet Dog record label put out a compilation called Planet Dub, with some tripped out ambient dub, and one of their acts called Children of the Bong put out one great lp called Sirius Sounds. Great label all round.

Thanks for trying but that ekoostic band sound too generic and I'm not into blues rock. Paul Simon's stuff sounds a bit too world-music/hippy-pop for me and not really my thing. I want more down-beat/drawn-out/electronic/chill-out/dub (or Indian). Must be instrumental though, or very few lyrics.
There must be someone better at doing what Shpongle does?

Thanks a lot man. Listening to Catalogue Of Desires now. Sounds more like what I'm after. I will work through the others you mentioned too.

Glad to be of help. Everything I listed I consider to be exceptional, no filler and no vocal other than eastern sounds sampled. As far as Shpongle goes I only rate their first album, I think they get shamefully cheesy on the other ones. I met the guys in Loop Guru. Their live show was something else, every beat played live. Their core albums are much more upbeat but absolutely worth checking out. Duniya and Amrita in particular. Their was also a band called Timeshard who used old analogue synths you may be interested in. On SoundCloud you can find the cassettes the used to sell at gigs, Who Pilots the Flying Saucers? and Hyborean Dome Temples of Apollo. Their two official albums are great too. On the Saturday night of the 25th Glastonbury Festival the played at a tiny club in Belfast to me and about eight mates, having turned down an offer to play the festival because it was too commercial. Top gents, a privilege to be there with them.

Yes, I was going to use the word 'cheesy'. Are You Spongled is my favourite mainly for Shpongle Spores, although I like most of the album. And I like parts of Ineffable Mysteries and that's about it.

I will definitely check out all those. I been Glastonbury a couple of times. It is very commercial these days. Luckily, I went before the likes of Jessy J and Beyonce etc put the final nails in the coffin.
Cheers

The Future Sound of London's "Environments" 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 (5 separate albums) are pretty psych, chill and spiritual. Garry Cobain, one of the men behind the group of two, is a serious psychedelic enthusiast and it definitely comes out in those albums. It's all technical electronic ambient. Seconding Lifeforms too!
I live in rural south east Australia and NO ONE here has heard of FSOL. I was wearing a FSOL t-shirt in a shopping mall and this English guy who was doing one of those amnesty international stalls sees me and couldn't believe I'd heard of them. He goes to his co-worker, "Have you heard of these guys? They're on another LEVEL!"
And so it is. They ARE on another level, I don't know how they do it. Enjoy.

Thanks, I have actually heard of them before and may have even heard a few tracks, but wasn't paying attention properly at the time. That should keep me busy for a while

Funnily enough, I was listening to that last night! Nice track! That lead synth is a bit loud in the mix though. You might want to turn it down a few dB
