An interesting Gymnopilus species

So, I was told last year, by someone who isn't with the community any longer, that their were only a few Gymnopilus species that grow on Palms and none are active.... well, these are neither inactive nor are they the few he said grow on Palms.... Any suggestions? Check out the base of the cluster. I know they are a bit past prime but I did collect them, in case they could be of any use to anyone.

Hmmm, that's a new one to me. I'll have to keep an eye on that spot... that does look like a good match, as of now! I appreciate that, sir.
And Rural..... those had tiny maggots crawling out of a couple... I wasn't that curious. I've tasted them before... they are bitter, to say the least. and, it doesn't seem like too many people are interested in Gymnopilus down here... I wish I could study them!

well, i suppose i can see why when you're in prime cube/pan area, it might put gyms down low on the list.
they're cool looking shrooms though, for sure. (when fresh)

Haha, yeah, they don't age well And yeah, im sure the cubes get most of the attention down here... but I've always been more interested in more than just tripping on the mushrooms. The only ones I've personally collected and consumed (that are "active") are Amanitas. All the active Gymns and Panaeolus I've found are in my herbarium lol. Cant bare to eat them... I still want to have them when I finally get my scope

There are a few psychoactive/bluing Gymnopilus that occur on palm here...G. cyanopalmicola, G. subtropicus etc. Also don't forget that other species not traditionally associated with palm will take advantage of it's abundance. I find that about a quarter of all Gymnopilus I find on palm bruises blue.

Hmmm. Very interesting! Sounds like I might have misunderstood what he was saying last year. I'll most definitely keep my eye out! Thanks, midnight!!

or just a heart-felt belief that was inaccurate... i understand thats not the motive, as i've followed your threads for years, but it never hurts to restate it lol gf found some oysters on a log i had stacked for firewood, yesterday. best part about it, i knew what they were. i guess its hard to explain to some people just how fun that is in itself.
and... i want to hear what happens about a week after you get your scope
