Hey guys stumbled across this fella walking home from work, looks the goods to me but unusually was growing in the middle of lawn nature strip so just checking, definite blue bruising on the stem.

That is without a doubt NOT an Active mushroom species.

I am not a trusted identifier, but I assure you I am correct on this.

Your mushroom has a bit of purplish bruising it looks like, not blue.

It's a Cortinarius species. Not active. That's purple, not blue.

Haha shut down, thanks guys this why I love the shroomery! Better go dust up on my IDing before picking again. Thought the grass habitat was highly suspicious.

That is probably of lesser importance in this case. Main difference between Psilocybe sp. and Cortinarius sp.
is the appearance and texture. While the former usually has rather pliant flesh, the latter is tough and fibrillous.
Also note the obvious rusty-brown spore deposits in Cortinarius sp., very often visible on the stem. And always
try to smell the mushroom in question, many Cortinarius sp. have distinct non-mushroomy odors.

Not to mention the blue staining in P. subaeruginosa, which is very easily discernible from your Cortinarius' obvious
(and innate) purple color.
