contamination or bruising?
    #21717012 - 05/24/15 10:10 AM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Hi. I just want you guys input on this one. Is the contamination/mold? Or is it supposed to look like this? This is my first batch ever.

You're funny lol. It's bruising. Very normal and lots of people belie the more it blues the stronger it is. BTW those fruits look like they're needing fresh air exchange. Would recommend punching more holes in the bag if you used a grow kit.

Thank you. I'm glad I can put a smile on your face, as long as you're helping me ;-) I have been venting the bag a lot more recently but I also don't want it to be contaminated.

Fully colonized substrates that are fruiting mushrooms should be strong enough to fight off contamination. There's probably thousands of mold spores all over the surface right now.

I basically fruit in open air so you shouldn't be too worried about contamination. Just do what the mushrooms tell you. If they get fuzzy feet and long and skinny they need lots more fae. That's why I'd either just make a shotgun fruiting chamber or poke more holes in the bag. It seems grow kits never give enough fae so it isn't uncommon to poke more holes in it.

Ok I really appreciate you sharing this. I will consider building a shotgun fruiting chamber for the next batch. Until then I will do my best venting the bag.

I hope you can help me once more. I ordered some more grow-kits (100% mycelium), but I know that the bags they come with are basically rubbish. So I was thinking about building a fruiting chamber. So my question is, can I use a mono tub design like this (
? And would you recommend using sterilized perlite in the bottom for moist or spray as the guy in the video is mentioning?
I apologize for all the questions, but you seem like you know a lot on this subject and I would like to do a good job.
