Monotub vs cakes insight...

So now that I've been through the ringer and have successfully done an sgfc with brf cakes, different size wbs tupperware cakes in sgfc, muda's bottle tek in sgfc, a semi-failed sgfc/mono hybrid...and now some sweet coir 30 qt mono's...I've come to realize that I wish I'd of gone with monotubs to begin with. For noobs...I think being able to properly stuff some holes in a mono then sitting back and watching nature take it's course is much, much easier than having to play mother nature by misting and fanning at proper intervals and hope you're creating the right conditions. Mono's create the perfect conditions when set up properly and take much of the guess work out the grow. Also....all the holes in the sgfc were just endless entrances for gnats, bugs, and whatever else was in the air...the fungus gnats ended up taking over in the end...thus far.....not one gnat has entered my mono's.....as the poly is a great filter for my babies.
My advice for noobs is to do your homework....then do it 10 more times. Be able to remember what you read from trusted cultivators teks such as Frank's mono for noobs and Franks dialing in like a boss and then just do it without having to look things up. Pasty has some great write ups on many topics as well. Don't be afraid of grains and mono's and just jump in with full dedication.
Any thoughts based on the same experience?

I'd still say shotguns are pretty easy and still a pretty good place to start. Not that it isn't possible for things to go great your first time around with monos tho.

Pf tek is recomended for noobs because you don't need a pc. But spawning cakes to bulk is pretty easy. However monos still need a proper touch that can be tricky for people to get right. Shotgun monos can for instance be a big ol fail for many. Many other people have trouble recognizing how a sub should look in a mono. There are plenty of horriblely dialed in pics of monos posted everyday. I have done many hybrid style monos that I love but it took me some time to get them perfect.
Experience is the best teacher. Cakes and pf style fruiting will teach plenty so there is value in it, even in failure, whether the cultivator realizes it at the time or not.

Cakes are way more work than monos for sure, from beginning to end. The only reason pf tek is good for beginners is learning sterile techniques and mastering it. You can be half ass sterile doing cakes and still get 6 good jars out of 12, fuck a sub up and you ain't getting anything. If you can get 12 clean jars out of 12 then monos should be no problem

I agree....good rule of thumb.
