I've had sterilized grain jars sit for as long as 3 weeks before inoculation. It isn't something I recommend doing though. I haven't used wbs in a while but could easily buy a bag, prep, sterilize, and inoculate all in one day.

IME no matter how long I pressure cook, my WBS ALWAYS contams if I don't inoculate within 12 hours of taking It out of the pressure cooker. Save your self the headache and wait to prepare your spawn bag until the night before you plan to inoculate, then as soon as possible inoculate your bag(s) after they are cool enough, Grain temps up to 90•F are ok to inoculate in.

Then your PC sucks. Bags or jars of grain should stay clean indefinitely if they were sterilized properly. The reason you inoculate ASAP is to colonize the grains while they are maximally hydrated. The grain will hold their moisture for weeks or even months after being sterilized. Longer you wait the more likely it could stall from a dry patch though.

contamination after just 12 hours has nothing to do with it not being inoculated. That just means you have an issue somewhere along the line.
I don't use bags for anything, but for substrate I mostly use hpoo/coir/verm/gypsum Occasionally I use Hardwood chips/wheat bran/gypsum and straw/verm/gypsum. I don't believe that I am on par with the straw subs but they worked out just fine.

I actually agree with the poster on going as fast as you can when prepping was. Unless you pc for 2 hours+. Wbs can be starchy, and as such there's bacterial endospores. Every other mild spore should be dead in like half an hour at a rolling boil (not even a pc) but we pc for 90 minutes (it should be changed to 2 hours) to attempt to kill bacterial endospores. With grains that are bacterial it's usually a race for which one can win. If you let it sit too long the bacteria will win.
Although both of these are 100% can you spot which one I pcd for 90 minutes vs 120(which still has wet looking bacterial grains on the bottom)

Are you impulse sealing your spawn bags or using the accordian fold with tyvek sleeve?
Ive gone a couple days and they were ok, and RR says hes let them go as long as 3 days, so long as they hold thier seal
