temporary paralysis after shrooms
#21713297 - 05/23/15 07:26 AM (8 years, 8 months ago) |

The first time I ate 1.7g of shrooms and it was great. No negative side effects. The second time I ate 3g of shrooms but they must have lost their potency because I wasn't as high as I was the first time. The second time, me and two others are them. The same amount. The same batch. All p subs.
During the trip we realised we couldn't smile and our facial muscles weren't working but we weren't sure if we were tripping or it was actually happening, and because it happened to all of us we assumed that it was just us tripping.
When I came down from the trip, I went to my boyfriends house and I couldn't smile, like my face was this massive frown and I felt like crying for no real reason. Then he was cuddling me and I still couldn't smile, it was strange.
Anyway, we then had sex and (tmi?) I was using my middle and index finger to masturbate aaaaand they started to go limp. Like they wouldn't work. There was no strength in them. I couldn't move them. That was strange to me.
The next morning my right arm felt very weak, I was brushing my hair and it felt like I had no muscle in my arm. Like if I was to use it too much it would go limp like my fingers did. Anyway ever since then I've gone back to normal but I'm wondering why this happened? What could have caused this?

Yeah I used to get that a few years back when I took a lot of mushrooms. The next day after a high dose trip I couldn't hold a spoon properly, brush my teeth etc. Several people on here have experienced similar things, particularly people from Victoria, Australia. Are you from Australia?

Were they psilocybe cubensis? Haven't heard of those causing it, but wood growing ones like pan cyans can do this. Scary stuff...

It seems to happen a lot with subs, and especially with subs in Oz. There's a very long thread about this somewhere...
And an even longer contentious thread about a possible cure for it (with azurescens): http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20849882/fpart/all/vc/1

I'm interested to see this thread.. Ah, I wonder why it's just subs from Aus that make this happen? There should be some studies done on this haha.. It's really interesting!
But I'll keep antihistamines in mind if I seriously can't move. Maybe they would work for subs. I don't mind being a little paralytic if it's mild and temporary, but I fear what if for some reason I stay that way, is that even possible!

There's a whole lot more threads if you search. My advice from reading about it and having it happen once from Ps. cyanescens is stay away from subs if you can. There's some evidence that it gets worse with repeated exposure, not to be TOO alarming.

I've taken a lot of mushrooms. Thousands of mushrooms, and countless very high doses. All subs from Victoria. I used to get that paralysis effect the following day, but it always went away 100%. I have no paralysis symptoms whatsoever. I last took mushrooms a month ago, and before that it had been 5 years.
That anti-histamine cure is interesting.

There was somebody who kept getting it from subs and they thought it was getting progressively worse, but I don't know how old that thread was.
It seems pretty obvious though that if you're getting it from SOME subs you'd want to look for OTHER subs. I encountered these variant Ps. cyanescens in the wild in one patch only, and the result was near to terrifying - not a paralysis after the trip, but during the trip. I think the OP is talking about during the trip. It's not an ordinary effect, but it seems to happen a lot with woodlovers of various species.

interesting.
Another paralysis report from Australia? Whoa.
So Ps. sub is a wood lover right?
Ive had a sort of "mushroom poisoning" from ps cyans. It started with my first few doses, but its gonee now.
For me, the cure wasnt anti-histamine. Yes, i tried it, it helped but wasnt a bcure".
The cure i happen to discover was micro-dosing the wood lover. Over lots of small, trips almost all under 1 gram, at the end of the 3 month long mini-trip dosing, i no longer got the intense muscle pains from my wood lover shrooms.
So if u wanna use Ps sub, i suggest taking lots of small doses over a month span so your body can "immune itself" to the toxins.

Sometimes wood consuming psilocybes cause paralysis not too uncommon, there's an obvious toxin or other chemical which is causing it in the mushroom itself, never had it happen to me, but I make tea every time

I wouldn't recommend micro dosing like LC describes unless you know for sure that the suspect patch is free of any pesticides btw. If you have a home cultivated patch, green light go. There seems to be a few people on here that say home cultivated ones are safe. In my experience I would have to agree. Whenever I eat shrooms from the high risk zones I get really f'd up symptoms that last for about a week. Even longer sometimes. They are poisonous. Probably not a good idea to go eating those ones very often at all.
Here is a list of some of the Poisons used by the public city parks where the mushrooms are found in my area. State parks have similar insect and weed management programs.
PARK SERVICE ZONES APPROVED LIST Areas of pest management: General community, neighborhood, regional, and urban parks. HERBICIDES Primary choices:
Gallery 75 DF (isoxaben) Used on shrub beds, tree circles, and other areas. Can be used in combination or rotation with oryzalin to broaden the spectrum of weeds prevented.
Garlon 3A, Lilly Miller Brush and Vine (triclopyr amine) Selective products for woody, difficult to control perennials. Used in spray and cut-stem applications, also for invasives and habitat restoration. Ranger Pro, Roundup Pro Concentrate, RU ProDry, Rodeo, Aquaneat,
Aquamaster (glyphosate) Primary vegetation control product used with other methods in shrub beds, tree circles, bare ground, and on invasive weeds.
Surflan AS (oryzalin) Used in shrub beds, tree circles, fence lines and other park areas for weed control. A primary liquid form preemergent product.
XL 2G (benefin+oryzalin) Combination product for wider spectrum weed control. Useful in sites where liquid products are more difficult to apply. This is a primary granular preemergent product. Specialty uses: DeMoss, Garden Safe Moss and Algae Killer, others (fatty acids) Moss control desiccant. For structures and non-vegetated surfaces. Not typically used, but possible sporadic use.
Scythe (pelargonic fatty acid) Minor use desiccant used for top-kill of early-stage, easily killed weeds.
FUNGICIDES
Fertilome Liquid Systemic Fungicide (propiconazole) Possible use for disease control for high value plants in short term, special situations where long term plant health is affected. Typically not used, in park zones but retained for unusual circumstances.
Microcop (copper sulfate) Copper soap (copper octanoate) Possible use for disease control for high value plants in short term, special situations where long term plant health is affected. Typically not used in park zones, but retained for unusual circumstances.

Sure is . I've wondered if the Amanita patches were effecting the azure patches. I think they are because the azures from this type of patch are extremely visionary and the visuals have a really cartoon look to them. Super cool Azures, minus the crippling paralysis of course.

maybe it's like when someone points out a certain car and then you start seeing the same kind of car everywhere kinda thing. Or maybe there are more mushroom pickers every year and we are reaching the tipping point of awareness. First time it happened to me was 15 years ago with cyans from olympia, washington. I just started posting about it

I wonder if, given how Australia is now approaching research and usage of psychedelic mushrooms, if there's a possibility of contacting a local university and seeing if they can investigate?
