Manic Depression, Bi Polar, Anxiety and Shrooms

So I have a friend with a family that has a history of manic depression and bipolar disorders
He has had anxiety disorder since he was 16. He's 26 now.
Never done shrooms, interested in doing so. Could anything bad happen with shrooms? Is there even a slight risk? Because if there is a .00001% chance of anything going wrong, it's definitely better he doesnt...
I'd really appreciate it if those who reply aren't simply giving their opinions but are answering based on first-hand experience or on actual scientific research.
Thank you.

My girl is bi-polar and we tripped on L multiple times together with no issues. She told me she did mushrooms with her ex and didn't have a good time. I dunno if that helps or not

I suffer from all of the above, and I have done a number of trips on L, a few times on LSA, and twice on Mushies. As long as you have Set and Setting down pat, you should be in good hands. Just remember everyone handles it a bit differently.

All psychedelic use has risks you should be familiar and comfortable with. Your friend needs to research and decide what he wants. mushrooms are more than getting high.

Is he on medication for this? If so it's worth checking if the medication is compatible with shrooms.

To be honest, anyone with a family history of manic depression / bipolar, or with anxiety disorder, would probably be screened out of scientific experiments involving psychedelics.
For example, this was the "psychiatric exclusion criteria" for a John Hopkins study into mystical experiences on psilocybin:
Quote:
Psychiatric Exclusion Criteria: o Current or past history of meeting DSM-IV criteria for Schizophrenia, Psychotic Disorder (unless substance-induced or due to a medical condition), or Bipolar I or II Disorder. o Current or past history within the last 5 years of meeting DSM-IV criteria for alcohol or drug dependence (excluding caffeine and nicotine) or severe major depression. o Have a first or second degree relative with Schizophrenia, Psychotic Disorder (unless substance induced or due to a medical condition), or Bipolar I or II Disorder. o Currently meets DSM-IV criteria for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, or other psychiatric conditions judged to be incompatible with establishment of rapport or safe exposure to psilocybin

Psychedelics are never completely risk-free. It's not unknown for trips to tip people into manic states or temporary psychosis, and the exact trigger can be hard to isolate from a variety of background circumstances. For an example see this thread

are good advice....

I'm manic and my wife is bi polar. I enjoy tripping, and she loved taking Sid back in the day. We ate some shroomies a couple years back and she had a good
time. It's all up to him bro, if he wants to do it and feels comfortable then let him. If he has a bad trip it will be over in a couple of hours.
