Starting a colony

Hey guys, I have a few cakes at the moment starting to come through with mycelium, if I were to crumble say 4-8 cakes up with growth in them and put them into soil with a good mix of manure or whatever is necessary, would that give me a good flush? Would the mycelium grow still?
Or would I be better off to bake some more Vermiculite etc. and get a monotub going?

Find a solid tek. Follow it. I've failed 2 separate grow attempts so far from trying to experiment. I'm on number 3 now and things are growing great due to me following the tek. Although if you're set on experimenting, use the search function and read read read.

I would Not recommend crumbling any of the cakes.. Birth them one week after fully colonised, Dunk + Roll, put them in a Shotgun Fruiting Chamber (SGFC) With 3-4 inches of Perlite.
Crumbling the cakes may provide more mushrooms but you will need to properly pasteurise the manure and the risk of contamination is much higher when crumbling cakes.
Get some experience growing them as cakes and keep things simple for now. If you want to 'bulk' grow look in to Grains.
Follow the TEKS on this website and do as mush research as possible. Research is Key when starting your first grow. Best of luck!

If your cakes are FULLY colonized, you could crumble (cheese grater is best) them to a bulk substrate. You want them fully colonized or else you run a serious risk of the uncolonized flour contaming.

Thanks guys. I'll do some more research too.
If I were to use say 4 cakes fully colonised, shredded, do I add that to more Verm/BRF mixture for a bigger flush? With the same story of baking the Verm, adding BRF and mixing in the colonised shredded cakes? Mixing that up would then allow the mycelium to spread further creating a monotub?
My understanding so far is limited

No that won't work. Grains and flour must be kept sterile. If you start with brf your best bet is to spawn it. Expanding it to more grain and flour is possible but risky and best left to people with far more experience with sterile tek.

Check my sig. PF to bulk is my favorite. I've done bulk to straight verm which is ok. Much better yields and less maintenance with coir though. I don't even bother to pasteurize coir anymore. Rarely get contams

And on a side note, you can grate them into some sterilized coir/verm.
A little easier since you can sterilize the coir/verm in a pc for 90 minutes vs. having to pasteurize manure, or straw where you need to maintain the temps between 130-170F for 90min.
It's up to you of course, but if you decideto grate them to bulk it would probably be easier for you to go the sterilized coir/verm route your 1st time doing it. I would do about a 60/40 ratio respectively. Some do a 50/50 but I have had a little better results using a little less verm.
Also tossing in a small handful of gypsum when bring the coir/verm to field capacity doesn't hurt either but is not totally necessary.
You can either sterilize in jars already at field capacity or put it in a knotted pillowcase and pc it. (if you use a pillowcase place a plate on top of it if you are pc's so you don't plug the vent hole and blow anything up...lol)
Hell, you could probably get away with just boiling it in a stockpot with lid for a couple hours as well....
Just trying to throw you some ideas out there.
