Those are subs. From your pictures though it looks like you just ripped them out of the ground. You have just potentially ended that patch.

Change your mood from "awesome" to "ashamed".

LOL just kidding mate, you said you are a newbie. Next time take some scissors and cut at the base.

I agree. I was starting to wonder why this thread wasn't in MH&I forum and then I realized the OP is new.

Would the bruising be on the top or on the stem

a few have blue bruising on the actual top part and some have like a blacky blue colour on the stems

Use the stems to colonize hydrated woodchips inside a tote bin with holes- that method works wonders with woodlovers.

Just keep it moist.

That's not a bad idea, where I reside, all of our active psilocybes grow off of dung (Dung lovers) ,
so I'm not familiar or experienced with how woodloving shrooms grow, but to my understanding, they are alot more difficult to maintain and grow a healthy mycelium.  Also apparently if you dont cut them with scissors (pulling up the mycelium) will cause permanent damage to that particular spot, at least until more grows in its place

Usually the bruising will be more dramatic or noticeable on the stem, but the caps can have it just as much or more.
also keep in mind that the more you damage the mushroom (squeezing it etc.) The more it will "bruise" blue and you doing this actual causes the active substance (Psilocybin) to oxidize into the air which basically means it loses overall potency
The same thing happens if you don't dry them properly. Mushrooms are elegant and fragile, they must be treated with respect.
