in the middle east it's just easier to extract than is is in north america, if it comes up easy it can be sold cheaply because it doesnt require nearly as many resources to produce...

Oil is here to stay for a long time. Which is good, cause apparently, Canada will never run out of it.
The latter two would be pretty easy
Design of standard Jet engines makes it a bit more of a task I'm guessing.
And the effect you are pointing out works in the opposite - As population growth and demand from emerging countries rises, the demand for technologies which avoid using the same resources skyrockets. If a battery, oft quoted in the many thousands of dollars can take a car 300 miles a charge today - it is about equal technically with a gas engine, since the very low cost of recharging offsets the high cost of replacement. In ten years though? I would not be surprised if the battery has over a 1000 mile range and a similarly exponentially lower cost, coupled with increasing passive energy supplies - where then is the allure of oil and gas? I know the choice most people would make at that point.

how would we produce and store the energy used for all these electric vehicles?

Depends where you live, in the NW we're doing pretty well with the current setup of mostly hydro elec...
I imagine in the south a good amount of headway could be made with solar for a good investment price,
However even if fossil fuels are being used, coal etc. or natural gas they seem to be more efficient in the context of a power plant, hence the cost of electricity vs buying gasoline.

They have nuclear powered ships already. Small to medium sized vessels could go electric, ones too large for that but to small to go nuclear would have to stay gas driven, but thats expected. Completely eliminating the use of fossil fuels is impossible, but that doesnt mean we cant seriously curb our appetite for them.

But you see we're batshit insane and despite that the last time we nuked someone was way back in 1945. The Saudis are many times as crazy, and I really don't think they're going to show as much restraint.

The PNW hydroelectric system has been in place for a long time, nothing new being destroyed Done responsibly hydro can leave the environment well intact. In the case of the PNW as well - it has been used to increase the amount of arable land in the deserts of eastern WA
I'm not really talking about pollution as much as I am energy independence - and I know there are instances of pollution - especially heavier on the Chinese side of production - however I think the notion that solar energy manufacturing is more polluting than fossil fuel extraction/transportation/consumption is a trendy fallacy.
And as far as storing the energy batteries still have a bit to go for large scale applications, though I think nuclear should be applicable to large scale commercial shipping.

We can eliminate fossil fuels completely. Whatchu on about mate?
We just can't replace fossil fuels with ONE energy source alone.

how do we store that electricity in those small to medium sized ship, we cant just charge up an electricity tank like we can a fuel tank

Almost any scale of batteries have existed for some time now, they need some downsizing and might be costly - but it's there and it's improving constantly

Seems like only the incredibly uptight buttholes who get upset by people not using the reply button. Most people can just infer to whom a post is directed from its content. Or they quote it for quick concise referance in case it is contuned over to another page or theres mutliple posts n stuff or summin
