Is this possible to do??? Experts only please!
    #2171038 - 12/10/03 05:53 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Alright so here is the deal, I'm going through my first flush now but for some reasons I need to leave the house and I dont want my babies to be not attented (fanning/misting,etc.) So is it possible to put my fruting chamber in the fridge after the 1st flush then come back and continue with the flushes? Or is this going to kill it? I'm going away for about a month so is there anyway I can salvage this hard work? Any advice??? Or is there a way for me to leave it at home without monitoring?

One month is too much time. Mushrooms will grow, mature, release spores and eventually rot. You can pick up all the shrooms off of the whatever you are growing and put it in the fridge inside ziplock bags at low temps (5?C). This temps will stop mycellium from fruiting/growing (kind of an hybernation). That?s how I do it, but I have to say that I do it before birthing or casing it; I don?t really know if it will work after a flush but it should.

The best thing to do is give them to me. Live in the Northeast USA, this Ninja will baby-sit.

I think the fridge is a good option if you have no one to act as caretaker.

A month is a long time. Lack of fresh air might be a problem.

If they don't go moldy, they will prolly survive.

Hope to hear some good news in a month ;p

i think you just need to either give it to a friend, or plant it outside. if you put it in your fridge, you might be able to stop it. but, if it grows even one mushie, that mushie will rot in your fridge and mess up the whole thing....not to mention you would have to empty your fridge and clean the funk out of it.

I need some serious advice on this situation, I'm getting massive growth with the B+ strain and its awsome, the only problem is I'm off to home soon and I'm gonna be gone for a month. I can't bring it home and its way too cold for outside to be planted. What would you say if I decided to put the casing int he fridge after the 1st flush. Wouldn't it stop the growth and go into hibernation state since its too cold to fruit? If I also put food dehydrater in the ziplock bagged casings it wouldn't grow until I rehydrate "dunk" technique right?
Or am I doomed?

IMHO...

If you seal the casing air-tight after picking all shrooms and pins, it'll survive in the fridge for a month.

Pick all shrooms from all cakes, no matter how small. Then put each cake in a clean jar and fill with water. Put each jar in the fridge until you get back. They will be hydrated, ready to fruit, and oh so happy to see daddy.

Or you could try to stick the whole thing in the fridge as you suggested (???) Do you have a really big fridge or something? Could you fit a frozen cow in there?

One whole month dunking might be too much time, IMO.

hey guys wassup its been a while since I left it in the fridge and it still looks good, no discoloration other then the purple spores the previous batch shot out. Just keeping u guys updated on my work, I'm hoping it will be alright even after 2 more weeks

oh if I were to dunk them for 24 hours to rehydrate, is it alright to use a little of isopropyl alcohol? or do I have to use peroxide?

You will be fine with regular tap water . Put some peroxide in if you want. Tap water has chlorine so dont worry.

ok I just decided to take them out of the fridge and dunk them in water for a day, now I realized that there is some contamination from leaving the cakes out for a few hours before dunking. It is light to dark green in small areas. Since I dunked them in the water for a day this should kill the contams right? I also removed much as possible with a sterile knife. What do you guys think I should do?

"Since I dunked them in the water for a day this should kill the contams right?"

no, but it will spread the mold spores over the entire cake so it grows like crazy.

you need to dip in a 1/100 bleach/water solution to kill the contams

good luck
