Ban Hua Thanon/B+ Mycobag Grow Log (PICS)

Ive been reading this forum for a couple of years now, and everything and anything Ive learned about this hobby is thanks to you guys, I appreciate it a bunch.
Ive done PFTEK, some time ago and fruited in hydro chamber with decent success. Yields were what you would expect but potency was outstanding (Ban Hua Thanon). That was my only previous attempt at growing and I was happy with the results.
This time around I decided to go with Mycobags for increased yields, simplicity and so I could learn different techniques etc etc. I realize mycobag growing is frowned upon by some, but in my current situation this was the best choice for me. Some info on materials used: KIT from one of the sponsors.
1.Sterilized grain spawn (organic rye berries) separated in to 1 lb. mycobags with injection ports 2.Pre-pasteurized mushroom compost (dehydrated horse manure, exotic zoo manure, organic coconut coir, vermiculite, and gypsum.) 3.Brand new filter patch mycobags (large size; 5.0 micron filter) 4.Mushroom bag clamps (8" length) 5.Vinyl tubing for bag clamps 6.Sterile alcohol swabs 7.Powder-free vinyl exam gloves 8.Casing mixture (organic peat moss, coarse vermiculite, hydrated lime (for pH adjustment), and granular gypsum (supplementing the mix with calcium and sulfur—essential elements for fruit body formation).
3/14 - Knocked up 6 x 1 lb spawn bags with Ban Hua Thanon and B+, cubes. 4 x Bans and 2 x B+. Used basic sterile procedures, save glovebox or flowhood since I don't have either. flamed needle for 15 secs between inoculation and wiped the black sod off with alc wipe right before injecting. Also I angled the needle when entering injection port as to get the liquid closer to the bag walls, and not in the middle of spawn.

Set the inoculated bags on a shelf and left them alone.

Faced some real issues with keeping steady temperature in my room, as the local temps have been massively schizophrenic, changing by 15-20 degrees every other day. I believe this is what has caused slow colonization of the spawn bags. it took 6-7 weeks for all the bags to fully colonize which is a very long period of time.
After 3 weeks only 1 out of 6 bags showed any colonization at all, which had me all types of worried. But alas, patience paid off and by beginning of May all 6 were colonized. SIde note: I decided to pump a syringe of sterile water into each bag as they all got way dry. Judging their content humidity level by a noob was a bit challenging. Also, B+ colonization was faster and more lively.
5/1 - Mixed colonized spawn bags with mushroom compost. 1:2.5 ratio. The grow bags were provided in a kit and were a lot larger than I expected. The second photo is two grow bags set next to a 66 qrt tub. ALso in these photos, all of the spawn is on top of compost and has not been mixed yet

Here are the grow bags with spawn and compost thoroughly mixed

Here they are a few days later. THe bags on the right are B+, and I mixed them several days after mixing the Ban Hua Thanons, 4 bags on the left.
5/21 - Cased all six grow bags, as they were 90-100% colonized - 3 weeks after mixing (again longer than expected). Casing with: organic peat moss, coarse vermiculite, hydrated lime, granular gypsum. I used a clean glove and continued basic sterile precautions. The photos are crappy cause I didn't have my DSLR, will get those retaken.
The cake was very uneven and instead of messing with the mycelium and trying to flatten it I decided to try to case it with an even thickness layer, which proved a bit messy and challenging - working inside a plastic bag and all. Some of the casing fell to the sides of the cake and it makes it look like the layer is a lot thicker than it actually is. Im confident its close to .5 inch across the board which is exactly what I wanted.

Set these back on the shelves and expect to introduce em to fruiting conditions by sometime next week, if mycelium start breaking through the casing. I left a little casing to patch as needed too. Gout this bulb and lamp which should be great for fruiting
Woods 0169 18/2-Gauge SPT-2 Clamp Light with 8.5-Inch Reflector, 150-Watt, 6-Foot Cord
Feit Electric ESL40TN/D 42-Watt Compact Fluorescent High-Wattage Bulb, Daylight (150W equivalent)
BONUS:
I attempted G2G while mixing spawn with compost, and pulled out two more spawn bags, added some sterile water and some colonized grains and resealed the bags.

At first they were colonizing fast but soon bacteria started turning this spawn into brown nasty slurge of sorts. I separated seemingly healthy mycelium and brought it into an outdoor drowbox (4' x 4') that's in the back of my apt building. I think someone grew something there at some point and now it just sits there unused. I have a good feeling ill see some outdoor grown Thai Tanics their shortly.
Ill keep updating with pics and info as the grow goes along. CHeers and Thank You!

So I harvested about 6-7 mushrooms last night cause they opened up when I went to go get weed for the wife. Cracker dryer them overnight in a dehydrator.

Not bad for a little harvest. I already have two trays drying and some mushrooms that still need to mature on the sub. I'm just picking as I go!

5/26 - finally got my grow light from amazon today. I pulled out the bags and it looks like the casing got more colonized that id like.
. .
I still had casing left, so i patched the mycelium spots with a thin layer, the best i could.
. .
I sprayed the casing lightly in each bag, fanned the bag flaps for a bit of air exchange, dropped the temp in the room by few degrees and put the light on 12/12 cycle.
.
Btw, this bulb is really bright, alot brighter than expected. One of the bags has medium size pins already, i left em alone and patched around. Anyone know if you can fruit mycobags with flaps open for fresh air?

I imagine that they would lose a lot of humidity.

I suppose. Ill keep them as they are and see what the fruit look like. How is the potency of your mooshies? Saw u had a nice yield.

Well my trips are way different then most. I'm on a ssri (zoloft) which is known to reduce the effects of most psychedelics. So I have to eat like 6.5 grams. BUT I did give 2.5 grams to my sister in law and her husband, they split that and they said they had a really good trip... Hardcore giggles.
Thank you! I had 32 grams dry on the first flush. My second flush is already pinning like a boss.

So, i have few shroomies coming up, these were pins before i introduced bags to fruiting conditions, just yesterday. There is some fuzzy myc growth on the stems. What does it mean? Is there not enough FAE?

Yeah things are about to get real exciting for you bro!!!
It's called "fuzzy feet", it's usually a low result of FAE. Just fan your bags a couple more times a day. But is this B+ cause my B+ did the same thing in my sgfc.

I think its B+, i know the fruit look alot different from ban hua thanon, so i didnt bother marking the bags. Ive only fanned yesterday and today, so i think the FAE was an issue for these couple mooshies for few days before. Ill keep an eye though. Cant wait for pins in all bags!

Nice. Definite advantage of fruiting these in sgfc is the sides of the cake being in the open. Looking forward to these babies growing full size!!!

The one bag is going bonkers, got a lot of shroomies growing on the sides of the cake. Gonna be a messy job trying to harvest. Also, a couple tiny pins are forming in another bag.

Fanned a couple more times and misted to get the casing to glisten. Also got a small fan indirectly circulating the air in the corner.

Yeah that looks like it's going to be a pain to harvest!! Do you think fanning more is helping? Also do you think the casing layer made a deference?

No idea at this point, ill have to wait for more shroomies to pop. I think casing helps when workung with rye grains. We'll see what the firat flush looks like, once they all fruit. How are your fattie pins coming along?
