Every morning I wake up and thank the Lord that I was not born in Canada. Quite possible the worst, most boring country on the planet.
-Cold as shit -Pretty much America Jr, but with french people -Shitty ass attitudes towards their superiors (America) -No culture -Ice hokey sucks ass -The country is boring as hell. Whatever terrain they have, AMerica has the exact same type, but better in every way shape and form -$25 for a pack of chewing tobacco .....The country is basically one giant suburb and is boring as hell
The list goes on, and on folks. I would much rather be in America, the land of epic awesomeness, guns, thick women, and good times left and right. So you may get a few looks in a foreign country without a Canadian flag on you backpack Im American and im fucking proud. We kick ass in so many ways. If the good Lord wants to send me back to earth and gives me the choice between Canada or Honduras (murder capital of the world) Ill take the latter.

Make fun of Canada with stereotypes, yeah, that's not cliche at all. The only reason Americans 'hate' Canada is because some people think they're better than other people and they can't handle the fact that Canada is near identical. Whatever, at least I can spell 'hockey.'

Also Hockey is fucking amazing, but I still don't think Canada is better at hockey.
the USA can just buy all the Canadian players anyways Really that's the only reasons, America is better than Canada at hockey because No canadian wants to play hockey for the CHL, they want in the NHL

As opposed to baseball, the most boring team sport, and football, the sport you only watch a fraction of.

Baseball is a terribly boring sport, but I do watch football from beginning to end - both footballs. At least association football is comfortable with its sexuality.

Canadian football is awesome. Canada, actually is awesome.
Here's the thing. Canada is like America's lil' bro. We talk shit about it constantly but as SOON as anyone else steps in it's like
"THE FUCK DID YOU SAY ABOUT CANADA??? DO YOU WANT SOME FREEDOM BITCH?"
edit: and that town in the east (Prince Edward Island? Nova Scotia?) that took care of everybody when the planes were grounded after 9/11?
fuckin' righteous. And TPB is an amazing ongoing work of film. Granted, the only thing worse than hockey is tree-hockey (basketball) and I can't stand the cold.

Gander Newfoundland. CNN came to my city (Calgary) to see what a hundred thousand flood evacuees looked like but found the emergency shelters empty as everyone just stayed with friends and they didn't believe it.

I'm proud to live in Newfoundland even though people think we're a bunch of fishing hicks or something.
We are know to have the friendliest people when it comes to foreigners visiting and such. Point being proven with the whole Gander 9/11 thing. Thing about Canada is we're probably the most unamerican people, which is why you guys tend to hate us so much, but we love you all regardless. If we accidentally bumped into you on the street you would tell us to fuck off. We just smile and say sorry, then as we're walking away we think, what a fucking asshole. That's the difference.
I find it hilarious how people can take a country of millions of people and generalize them in statements.
I'd like to sit down with OP and discuss his feelings over a delicious meal of toutons, canadian bacon and maple syrup.

that is a good point, but you have to consider that Canada only has about 40-50 million occupants, so comparing it to america is pretty stupid and a moot point
California or Texas by itself have more civilians than all of canada

I have no problem with Canada, really enjoyed the country the couple times I've been up there. I have a problem with the 10's of thousands of French Canadians that invade where I live every year from October until late April.
I also have a problem with the way they drive here and their constant need to wear Speedo's. Even when not at the beach.

I tell you, it is one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. One day I hope to return to the rockies... there is just nothing like it on earth!

I certainly agree with you. My only foray into Canada was a family trip to see Niagra Falls when I was a little kid ages ago. But I've seen pics of BC, and it's stunning. And I'm sure there are many more place just as pretty. It's a huge country and it still has vast areas of virtually untouched wilderness.

Newfoundland, which is where I live, has huuuuuge amounts of untouched land Just outside the capital city, which is where I live. It's awesome
aaaaand we have Gros Mourne nation park

Though don't forget that it's actually Newfoundland and Labrador. Newfoundland is the island on the east coast and Labrador is connected to the mainland. Labrador also is gorgeous and has the Torngat mountains

Indeed.
Jokes aside, I don't think I've ever met an American that truly didn't like Canada or its people. It's always brought up in a joking manner when making fun of the great white north.
I mean, what is there to not like about the place? They have some amazing cities/metropolitan areas, gorgeous scenery, and some of the kindest people in the world. Oh and also Tim Horton's. That place is fucking awesome. They need to expand to the US.

Canadian beer prices are a good enough reason to hate the place for me.
Plus I'm sure felons don't enjoy the fact they're not allowed to visit.

Nah, abuctee. Leprechauns live in a meadow called the Glen of Cloongallon, lies a huge fairy ring that spans some 500 feet in diameter.
The fairy ring is said to wrap around six ancient standing stones, which were capped off hundreds of years ago with a huge overhead stone.
Adding to the mystique of the area is a giant oak tree that spreads its arms protectively over the ring. Leprechauns, along with many other magical creatures, are said to live in the giant oak tree.
Jeez! I thought everyone knew this. lol

You can technically, but you have to apply to a government thing, that says you're "Rehabilitated"
Canada usually won't let in felons though. That's why quite a bit of bands aren't allowed in to canada.
Chris Fronzak of Attila isn't allowed into Canada because of his past felonies.

Well, isn't that some shit?
I think there's something like 65 million Americans with a criminal record. No idea how many of those are felony convictions, but even at 10% of that number they are missing out on quite a lot of tourist profit.
Judgmental pricks! Now I got a problem lol

Actually also kr0nik0, if you have a misdemeanor in the US, but that misdemeanor WOULD have been a felony if you preformed it in Canada, then you can't cross over to Canada either.

The US does the same shit though, but we don't have the rehabilitation centers and shit (we totally should, it costs 200+ dollars to get rehabbed status from Canada, they make hella money off our criminals)
But if you have a felony in another country, the USA won't let you in for five years I think?
AFAIK there's no hoops to jump through though, just gotta wait.

What resources does Canada have that we could possibly want? Poutine?
There's more oil on US soil than there is in Canadian

Hey, don't knock Poutine until you've tried it. It's so delicious that people have DIED from the deliciousness! Surely it must come from the very Gods themselves! In fact, it's not just a resource, it's life itself! And don't you dare dispute me, foolish mortal! I have a DEGREE and I KNOW shit!

But idk if Poutine > Chilli Cheese Fries...
It's good but not THAT good.. There's this irish pub near me, that makes Gravy out of Guinness beer (I'd drink the fucking gravy) and they make a poutine with the beer gravy and it's fucking 11/10

Why the fuck would we need to go through Canada to get oil from the US, or even foreign oil? Canada has no say in our "oil game" lol.

I've reported OP for trolling many times, the mod's insist it's intelligent discussion, not trolling.
It's literally all he does, is troll though.

They must not be very good at Google up there. A guy I know has a long criminal history including stealing a church van and escaping from jail, and he now resides in Canada. He moved there right after his last prison stint.

I haven't went through since 2003 but back then it was such a simple process. Now you need a passport so I guess that makes it a little more difficult.

I used to have an argument with a friend from the southern US. He swore he could hear me say aboot every time. One night we came to the conclusion that it wasn't that I was saying aboot, instead i wasn't prononcing about with 3 extra u's.
Most Canadians say "about"
Most Americans say "abouuut"
Most newfies say "aboot time ya shewed up with tha swish ya fackin cacksooker".

uuuh, no.
we pronounce the u more clearly, whereas you guys kind of mix it up with a half o half u sound. it has nothing to do with drawing out the word.
we dont draw out the u like abouuuut. we just pronounce it differently. and more accurately. listen to how English/british people say it. they pronounce it like us

Thats maybe true on the east coast. Come out to the prairies and go into a bar and listen real close to people talking. Then you can git punched in the face for listening in
No but really, I would say 75% of canadian stereotypes are only applicable to eastern Canada.
Also TPB is set in Halifax. East coast.

I'm a Newfie but I don't have a newfoundland accent at allll. I can talk like that if I choose because I know the lingo and slang from living here. But the majority of the people that talk like that are the ones that usually don't have any regard for english whatsoever.

but for real I kinda figured. Is there not a Canadian thing that's true for everything under the Maple Leaf?

I work with a lot of newfies and most of them are totally incoherent. Every now and then I will come across one that speaks with a perfectly normal dialect. Usually engineers or QC inspectors.
Common traits among Canadians? Most really like the word fuck no matter where your from.

The only thing that's true for everyone is that we're Canadian.
The rest is individuals being who they are.

I don't mean to be mean here, but in my experience it's the people with lower IQ's and people that haven't been around a lot of people that talk like that. A lot of people who work in trades here talk like that.
Myself, I in the Occupational Health and Safety field so everyone I meet from here are intelligent. Some may still have accents, but I do not. People are usually amazed when I say I've lived in Newfoundland almost my entire life.

I work in the trades myself. I remember when I first started one of the guys pulled me aside and warned me to stop talking the way I was. He advised me that to fit in I needed to swear a lot more and to use a grade 5 volcabulary. I found out later he was a chemical eng that had a hard time fitting in at first

I never had a problem with Canada until I went to Sasquatch in Washington State and had to camp around thousands of them in a festival setting. They're really obnoxious, and all they talk about is how great Canada is and how much the US sucks. They're very frat bro like - beer bongs and lots of shouting. Not that tons of Americans the same age aren't the same way - but I don't hear them going around talking about how much Canada sucks all the time either.
I get it, Canada. You've got an inferiority complex, and you try to over-compensate by talking up Canada and talking down the US.
OP is no better, at all. Like I said - I have no problem with Canada, except that so many Canadians I met seemed like dicks. I'm sure you've got a beautiful country, and while I don't appreciate Justin Bieber or Avril Lavigne, you've more than made up for it with Neil Young and Tommy Chong.

I would not change the way I talked or swore more often just to fit in.
I'd tell them to fuck off for telling me that though

Its tricky where I work. Its less about fitting in and more about not being labled a rat. Rats often end up with their d ring sawed through and shoved off the steel.
Not that I need to worry about being a branded a rat, most of them saw right away that I liked weed and that was good enough. They still gimme a lot of shit but its not malicious.

Usually drugs. Most of the sites and construction yards are rife with hard drug users.

i used to work construction and do drugs all day at work. i'd smoke weed and have a beer before i left, and do whatever i was able to during the day. alot of times i came home with all my drugs used up and felt like shit all day after work. it sucked sometimes, in hindsight
i filled a water bottle with wiskey on numerous occasions and noone really noticed or gave a shit. i was pretty careful about snorting stuff though, i always did that in the portashitters

16-18 hour days are ridiculous. I would have it changed if I could.
And an accident should be blamed on the person that caused the accident. Obviously. Furthermore there should be no accidents on the job site in the first place. Which is what my job is for.

i was also only pulling cable. sometimes we have to get into uncofmortable spots, or up on ladders and lifts, but that was never really a problem
pulling cable is like the easiest construction job there is, other than painting.

Accidents are usually caused by people sitting in air conditioned offices making cavalier decisions. The men in the field suffer the worst. Nothing is going to change that.

My job is to make sure workers are as safe as possible. I'm like the bridge between workers and those people making cavalier decisions you're talking about.
It might seem like they are annoying to you, but my job is to keep you safe. There are regulations, aka LAW that everyone has to follow while working. Hard hats in a construction zone is one of them.
I don't intend on going to jail because you decide to not wear your hard hat at the end of a project when something accidentally hits you in the head.
Do you see my point?

Yeah there is a distinctly Canadian pronunciation of "about" but it sounds nothing like "aboot." The Scottish actually do pronounce it "aboot."

Because a bunch of wooks goofing off at a festival are a good reference for the way an entire country acts.

I actually have a lot of respect for most safety people. The are often caught in the middle of conflicting interests while they are simply trying to do some good. Unfortunatly most are powerless to do much other than enforce simple rules and are simply seen as obsticals by both workers and management alike. It seems to be a job that saps many good people over the years but the one's who can stick with it and understand how the system manipulates them without becoming dejected are special and actually do some good in the long run.
But I have zero faith that you can keep me safe. I wear my ppe and follow the rules but those are nothing when a bond point on a 36" tee blows out because management wanted to save money on pipefitters and got a pile of TFWs at half the rate who can't bond worth shit. When that tee snaps the chain that had slack cause caps were on backorder so plugs were rigged up and the fitting launches 300 ft blowing structural steel for 300 yards in every direction, the FLHA I signed acknowleging that I will stay clear of the 20 yard red tape barrier ain't worth squat.
Of course in a situation like that everyone in the area is immediately piss tested and when its discovered worker x on the hydro crew smoked a doobie last week its case closed. Lets not examine too close what really happened guys or the heavys will shut us down and no one gets to work. Anyway I'm off topic here. Its just kinda funny how life is taken for granted.

Yeah, no, you're right, that's not a good way to judge a country.
I'm sure one day I'll find myself in a room full of the nicest Canadians I've ever met and totally change my mind.
