Plugging Maitake plugs in roots
    #21708376 - 05/21/15 10:33 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

hi my land borders a park full of oaks.
i was wondering if it would be possible to plug Maitake plugs into the bottom of oak trees.
i was wondering if its possible to plug a maitake plug into the base of an oak trunk down where the roots start.
my guess is that the roots take in all the nutrients and that a maitake plug would fruit nicely at the base of an oak as i have seen in the wild.

does anyone have any idea if this will work?
i dont want to order the plugs if there is no way the plugs will take.

does the oak tree i plug need to be dead?
or will a live tree be colonized by the mycellium well enough to fruit?
i know it takes a long time for a tree to be colonized but i hope that the maitake mycellium will run up the tree as the roots gather moisture and nutrients.

i read online to bury maitake plugged logs. so i figure roots are buried, perhaps plugging them is good enough!

thanks for reading and please leave a comment below. have a nice day.
