I praise science in rationale minds...

What is your point of reference? What should be rational about science? And would you want someone at the wheel?

My response is that science is supposedly (not supposed to be, but on supposition) grounded in nature, and not what we might rationally engineer it to be. So on that basis, I don't think science should be considered rationally justified.

But suppose science is in actuality indeed steered by rationalizations, and this becomes a basis of criticism and problematic. Then what sort of correction could you possibly make?

Maybe this is where many people pick up.
I think occasionally it is more appropriate to step back from or "deconstruct" assumptions than work according to their provisions, so I don't think this is something to correct.

It is important to note that the "empirical" basis of science would be traditionally opposed to a "rational" endeavor. (Try a web search for rationalism vs. empiricism).

One of the essential criticisms of scientific progress, is the belief that empirical induction has rationally justifiable basis. The notion of the implicit rational order of science has its roots in early 20th century philosophy.

Anyway this seems to be mostly notes. Hope something here is useful.

I would point out that quantum mechanics, while the most precise theory man has ever devised, is thoroughly irrational.

Even crazier, I had a very distinct thought about two hours ago about illiquidlounge, wondering how he's been?  In the middle of work it just seemed odd, and he hadn't been on here in ages.  Yet, here we go, with this thread.

Very odd.
