SOUTH HACKENSACK – Two longtime Drug Enforcement Agency workers owned and ran a South Hackensack strip club where dancers – many of them undocumented immigrants from Brazil and Russia – engaged in sexual activity with customers and staff, according to a criminal complaint unsealed in federal court Wednesday.
David Polos, 51, of West Nyack, N.Y., and Glen Glover, 45, of Lyndhurst have each been charged with one count of making false statements, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. The two men allegedly failed to disclose on national security clearance forms that they worked at, and had ownership interests in, the Twins Plus Go-Go Lounge at 125 Saddle River Ave. The club is in a small, non-contiguous portion of South Hackensack that sits between Lodi, Wallington, Hasbrouck Heights and Garfield.
The forms, which were submitted as part of a background check in 2011, required that any outside employment be disclosed to ensure workers were not involved in activities that would put them in “proximity to crime and persons involved in crime” or make them vulnerable to blackmail.
Polos, who joined the DEA in 1991, had been an assistant special agent-in-charge and supervised the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Strike Force. He retired last month, according to DEA spokeswoman Erin Mulvey.
Glover is an information technology specialist who has worked at the DEA since 1998. He has been placed on administrative leave, Mulvey said.
“Glen Glover is a highly decorated, well-respected DEA employee,” Glover’s attorney, Cathy Fleming, said. She said she was confident her client would be exonerated.
Polos’ attorney did not return a call for comment.
In addition to spelling out the allegations against Polos and Glover, the 20-page complaint unsealed Wednesday also offered an unexpected glimpse into the inner workings of the Twins Plus Go-Go Lounge.
Twins Plus, which notes its proximity to Felician College’s Lodi campus on its website, was the site of a brutal bar fight in January 2014. Two men were struck by a car as the brawl escalated outside the club, another was stabbed with a knife, and a fourth man was hit in the head with a hammer and was hospitalized in critical condition.
According to the complaint, owners knowingly employed undocumented immigrants as dancers, sexual activity appeared to be condoned and state law requiring dancers’ “private areas” be covered was not always followed. One former dancer originally from Brazil told an investigator that the owners let her work double shifts because they knew she needed to repay the smugglers who arranged her entry into the United States. The dancer also told authorities Polos lent her bail money when she was arrested outside the club in 2012 following an altercation with a police officer.
The complaint also alleged that Polos flaunted his ties to law enforcement. He occasionally said that he worked for the FBI; on other occasions, his badge was visible while he was in the club, the complaint stated. Once, during an argument with another co-owner, he allegedly lifted up his pant leg, pointed to a gun on his ankle and said, “This is the boss. I am the boss.”
Texts and emails obtained by federal authorities also detailed exchanges among Glover, Polos and other managers, in which they fretted over the cost of hiring an exterminator to rid the club of pill bugs and joked about the exterminator eliminating some of the dancers. In one message, Glover chastised another employee for not checking the lap dance rooms, which had “condoms everywhere.”
South Hackensack has recently come under scrutiny for the sex trade that takes place within its borders, particularly along Route 46 in the main section of the township.
That’s where the township has increased it policing of a stretch of five hotels, resulting in large increases in arrests for sex and drug crimes.
The hotels, Police Chief Joseph Terraccino has said, are the site of a large majority of the arrests in his otherwise quiet township of 2,420 residents. The hotels also have a lot of typical business that includes laborers and tourists looking for affordable rooms. None of the hotels' employees or managers has been accused of wrongdoing.
Last year, police made 222 narcotics arrests, up from 53 in 2013, The Record reported last month. And 50 prostitution arrests were made, up from 14 the year before.
Good thing there's none of thatQuote:

dancers – many of them undocumented immigrants from Brazil and Russia ------
Do you know how hard it is to find dancers who aren't illegal immigrants? Cut's down on pointless conversation as I don't speak Russian.
