I think 7.5g eliminated my need for porn (for now)
    #21705047 - 05/21/15 01:44 AM (8 years, 8 months ago)

A bit of background: I'm a 19yo bisexual. I discovered porn when I was around 13, and by the time I was 18 I was watching various stuff, from regular to gay, kinky, fetishes, taboo, furry, zoo, and additional more (and less) legal stuff.

I' have an addictive personality (if you believe in that sort of thing); my father has clinical depression, is a gambler, obese and smoker, and was a stoner for a long time.

I pretty much followed his footsteps during the latter years of highschool, engaging in self-destructive forms of gratification, including tons of videogames, risky sex, drugs and of course porn.

And funnily enough out of all those habits porn was the one I couldn't get rid of. I stopped taking recreative drugs cold when I noticed they were impacting me negatively, I stopped screwing around when I had responsibilities to deal with, and I ditched videogames when I got self-conscious. Porn, however, was always creeping up whenever I got bored, sad, or lonely.

During my previous escapades with drugs, I also got familiar with hallucinogens, namely shrooms and lsd, since I was reading a lot of psychology/neurology books at the time, and it wasn't a hard leap to make or justify (I also knew how to meditate so I was confident I could keep my shit together). My last dose was  8 months ago (5g), and during the year before that I took (1.9g, 2.5g, 2.5g, 1LSD paper), so I felt I had enough experience for a bigger dose.

Last week I went on a vacation, with someone you could call a fuckbuddy. I tend to have crushes on people I get that close to, and he's really sweet (and kinky), so I kinda got invested in him for the few weeks prior. It made me really self conscious, hyped and care-free as I didn't really focus on other stuff during that time-- I was trying to get my mental and physical health in top condition.

The first 2 days of vacation we were together all day, I'll leave the details to your imagination but the end result was that I felt my social and sexual needs were more than taken care of-- something I believe is important before a psychedelic trip.

In the middle of my week-long stay at his summerhouse, he needed to do some college stuff in another town so I was completely alone for 3 days , during which I didn't even look at the clock, slept long and well, read books, cleaned, exercised, and the last day ate about 7.5g of cubensis psychedelic mushrooms. I did it during a candlelight evening, in bed with my ereader.

As for the trip I experienced some new thoughts and feelings, had a fair bit of monologues, accidentally almost got dehydrated, didn't at all have paranoia, and by the end of it felt more relaxed napping in bed than I had for the past 10 years. I'll save the details for another post.

Anyway since I finished that trip, it's as if my habits completely dissipated. It's been more than 2 weeks since, and not only have I not had the compulsion to find, download or watch porn-- even thinking about it doesn't bring the pleasurable associations. It doesn't feel like I'm abstaining.

Apparently researchers already gave people cognitive addiction psychotherapy in combinations with shrooms, and showed it's more effective at helping them quit smoking than any clinical method (80% success rate vs. 35% of the best clinical drug). I reckon I inadvertently went trough a similar process.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not advocating the unguided use of psychoactive substances to self-medicate addiction. Taking large doses of psychedelics is no joke, and can cause mental harm if done improperly. If you don't have experience, or have a psychological condition, do not attempt any trips without prior consulting and without the presence of an experienced guide.

As for the permanency of this change, I can't say. All I know is that for the last 2 weeks I've had a different emotional response porn, one I haven't had since I started watching it (for comparison my previous record time without masturbation was 2 weeks, but it was a grueling experience, by the end of which I was actively battling a growing need and lost)

Anyone had a similar experience?

Edit: 28.05.2015 Been another week, urges still completely absent.

You're right. I even wrote I'm not sure of the permanency of the change--having that in mind the title of the thread "Accidentally got over porn addiction" seems premature.

As for new addictions, I've started going to the gym and reading much more, so yeah, you definitely need to replace habits with new ones; but they don't need to be bad.

Back to your objection, I'll make sure to update the thread regarding how the following weeks pan out, as well as try and change the title to something less sensationalistic.
