So i really wanted to get the ball rolling. Ive got more jars on way but had 6 ready. I couldnt really remember ratios ive done in the past. I usually just eye it out. Last year i did a bale of straw and bunch of manure to 25 jars. But alot of the jars were contaminated but still had myc in them. I just had to get rid of em. Needless to say that bed did amazing. A couple years ago i had done a buncj of beds and if i recall i was doing like 5 to 6 jars per huge cooler full of mixed straw and manure. Anyway. I did anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 bale today to 6 jars. Chopped it up. Hydrated for a lil over an hour. It was enough after hydrating to fill a large trash bag. So mixed that up with a bunch of shovels of manure. After mixing the grain in good it was pretty decent. I saw rye berries decent enougj with every handful. But nothing crazy. If i stretched it a little too thin you figure it will just take longer to colonize? Or could it even possibly fizzle out? Also will it effect the yield or just as long as the substrate colonizes it would be same as more spawn?

Personally I think it'll be amazing it'll be a good experiment nonetheless. I personally love low spawn ratios, I've never tried it on coir but manure it works brilliantly. Mushrooms in the wild don't really get spawned to manure patches with grains and still produce lots of big beautiful fruits. Hope this helps!
I use between 1:6-1:12 spawn ratios and you can see it in my log lol. It seems to be around the same weight imo. Always been 1-2.5 ounces per 2.5 qt tray spawned with 1/2 pints.

Should work. You actually want less spawn outdoors so animals don't dig up your patch. I've been meaning to make a non-sterile slurry with a little grain and spawn that outdoors. I think animals would be less likely to want it and your grain would go farther.

Awesome. Thanks guys for the posotive feedback. On a side note. Its supposed to get down to 46 degrees tommorow night. But then its gonna get back up into high 50s then plateauing out after that seeming in the mid 60s for a while. Do you think this one night of 46 mught hurt anything? Only laid the bed yesterday so its not like any fruits will suffer. Id like to think they myc will just be slower but not damaged or killed. What say you?

And whats this about a slurry? Do you like blend it and just pour on substrate? If so how would you like regulate or be able to spread ot well. Do you use a sprayer to be even. Or just sprink around?

Is this what you mean by slurry? I have been meaning to try this technique. How does your method relate/differ?
SKIP TO 5 minutes 10 seconds to see his method of preparing the slurry.

I can't watch videos. But I mean to grind up grain and water in a blender and mix that into your sub. It doesn't matter how you go about it. Don't overcomplicate simple things.

He used dry morals instead of spawn to make his blender slurry. Amoungst a bunch of additives that are unheard by my experiences. Which would be the essence of over complicating things, he is growing morals though..
Do you make 100% of your spawn in to that slurry? Or do a ratio.

I have to wonder if that video is legit or not. I thought morel mushrooms needed a certain elevation and habitat (high pines) to really thrive. None the less I'm going to give that method a shot and I'll let you all know a year from now if it works or not.

I don't do anything with slurry, it's just an idea. You can grow morels indoors reliably. There's a patent for it. The problem is everyone says that cultured morels don't taste as good.
