agar to syringe question.

Here's what I currently do:
Four large 3 quart myco bags of rye, pre-sealed, PC'd and knocked up with 10cc's of honey LC MS golden teacher. Set into four monotubs with coco/verm.
Its been working great for months. I love the open air procedures. (all I have is a still air box)
I am currently trying to isolate a Golden Teacher to be like all you cool kids. (I'm currently only getting 4 dry ounces a tub with the multi-spore)
How would you knock up these myco bags? I have five 50cc syringes that I've been using LC with, but it seems like the cool kids dislike LC. I enjoy the idea of a fast inoculation, so can I grow out a whole petri dish and plop that whole white disk in a PC'd jar of water... shake and suck up my 5 syringes worth of mycelia water? And do that every 5 months? Is that a better method than risky honey water LC? (I've had good luck for 6 months with mine)
Or is there another method? I know many knock up grain jars directly with agar wedges, but I am very attached to my pre-sealed myco-bags.
Thanks! Tor

I'm not a "cool kid"....but yes, you can blend agar in sterilized water and use it as an inoculant.

Dude, If its working for you keep doing what you're doing.
If you want to experiemnt, Try and use a few different LC mixtures than just honey water. I hear that is the most basic option.

Germinate/isolate on agar, transfer to a jar then g2g into your bag.
4 dry oz per flush (first and second, third will be less) on a normal 66qt tub is about right. I use 58 qt tubs and I shoot for 4-6 dry oz per flush. I've gotten 8 just a few times.

I get 4 ounces dry total from the 2-3 flushes before contams take over. Trying to improve that. I really like the pre-sealing myco bags, so grain to grain ain't my bag so to speak.
OK, I'll try the agar to sterile water jar. Can I leave a little bit of a wedge on the agar and will it grow out again? Or do you transfer it to a new fresh agar dish? Does refrigerating a dish stop its growth, or only slow it?

In an attempt to keep it simple, I'll try a chunk of glass and a good long shake instead of the blender. I hope it won't clog my needle.

I love LC too, and I hope to soon begin agar work to isolate some strains. My plan is to go MS - agar dish - isolate/clean - knock up LC with clean agar and then I'd use that LC on the bags.

When all your trays contam, remember I said to G2G. The easy way is almost never best.

Because I am going through a taped spot on my myco bag, it would seem that a 14 gauge needle could work, because I'm not tearing up a self-healing port. Does anyone know where I can find a long, thick needle?

How does a clean LC have a higher chance of contaminating than a clean grain master?? ...It's maybe even less likely if using SHIPS.

Its my understanding that the sweet water of LC is extremely prone to contams (possibly invisible, possibly newly arrived since it was last used), whereby the completely colonized master grain has likely won any contam wars and is pure.

Knowing your LC is clean in the first place is the problem. I gave up on LC years ago.

no thoughts on where to get thick 14 gauge long needles? I can't find them anywhere...
