New to agar

Hello to everybody!
I found some time ago the thread here about Pasty Agar mini-cups, I thought they were incredible... And with the movie tutorials, I wanted to try the tek on my own and did some plates. I used agar, potato flakes, glucose, water (using the quantities given in the vid here )
I innoc'd using spore solution (drops from syringe) in a ghetto glovebox. I have mixed results and would like suggestions. 5 of my cups didn't colonize, 3 have exploded but not sure with what.
The colonized have a lot of white fluff in the top but the agar below seems to be contam'd? It's red/orangy but I thought maybe it could be the agar drying out? The glucose I use is from old-people tablets that contain a colorant (why the agar is orangy in the first place)
Can I take a speckle of the fluff at the top with a scalpel in a glovebox and try to transfer to new cups?
(I add photos to the post as example, they are taken with a potato but the overview is the same) first 3 are the different colonized, and last is an example of the uncolonized.

Thanks for any help very appreciated -jab

identifying what's growing in your plates, that's gonna be on you since there's not a lot to be gathered from your pics;
all I can recommend is cross-referencing what you're seeing in real life, with images on here. use the search function for "mycelium on agar pics" or something like that.
it is possible that you've got a mix of mycellium and molds; you need to transfer to new plates as soon as possible, preferably before the contaminates grow over to the mycelium; again, without better pics, that's gonna be on you to decided what's mold and whats not

The mention of the red was interesting but you do have a possible none contamination explanation. . What harm could actually come from your transfer attempt ?? None you say. Yes I say to doing it. Also new dishes would give you a chance to use a more conventional and less red glucose source. If no red in round 2 then hypothesis is certainaly not disproven. If still red...well As for the 5 with no growth. Fuck it . ( hey no growth also means no contamination. Further supporting the dye theirory) There could be several reasons for that . Stick with what is growing.

Not quite sure if your concern stems from the red being leached out but I assure you its normal for the food coloring to be consumed. As for no growth, that can happen, especially with syringes. Take a small transfer or two to new plates and see how it does. If it grows out clean use it to nock up a grain master or two.

yup look for the number "5"
not in quotation marks,
but usually surrounded by the "recycling arrows"
as demonstrated here
it's reusable too, and containers are very usefull if you find yourself without petris or a way to pour agar safely,
as demonstrated here
