Are these contaminated?
    #21703069 - 05/20/15 04:53 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

First time grower here. I got 4 out of 12 jars fully colonized without contam (I'll definitely be more careful sterilizing next time) and put them in the FC. Over a week went by before they pinned, and I noticed as I checked right before I left for a 3 day trip. I figured since they took so long to pin they'd grow slowly, but unfortunately I got back to them being pretty past the point of harvest (correct me if I'm wrong). I didn't think to take pictures until after I'd pulled off the main clusters so here's what I have. Can anyone tell me what's going on here? And what is the black dusting all over the perilite? Is that spores or contam? Also, should I just leave the small ones to keep growing?

These are the big ones I pulled off:

There appears to be a little greenish blue on the stems. Do these look safe to eat still?

Any direct answers or links to good reading material on this would be most appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance!

The black/purple is spores.

You can leave the smaller fruits to continue growing.

Ok, thank you. Should I still eat the ones I harvested? I'm mainly concerned with the blueish green on the stems (hard to see in the pic)

It's bruising. It's a reaction from being handled. Some say it's oxidation of psilocybin/psilocin. Some say it's the different acids in the mycelium/mushrooms. It's impossible to know without quantitative results.

Basically they're perfectly safe to eat. It's normal and is one of the MANY indicators (another one is those black/purple spores/spore prints) they're psychedelic if you were hunting in the wild.
