grain jars w/o gypsum compensate with substrate monotub grow
    #21702928 - 05/20/15 04:13 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

I am planning on doing a bulk substrate grow in monotubs, following Damion5050 for substrate (open to suggestions if you feel there would be a better suited substrate for my grow), and using rye grain spawn jars at a ratio of about 1:3 or 1:2. Depends on if any of my jars get contaminations. The jars are going to be inoculated with spore syringe. I have all of the required material to get the jars started minus the gypsum and was wondering if I can proceed with starting the jars sans gypsum, hopefully not getting too sticky, and compensate for the lost nutrients by adding the gypsum to my substrate instead? Basically I don't have the money to get the gypsum right now and am already behind on my planned schedule, but by the time the jars are colonized I will have the money to get the gypsum and prepare my bulk substrate. Aside from the benefit of my grains not clumping, will I have any negative effects by just adding the gypsum to the substrate and not my grains?

Do you have any drywall? When I run out I crush up dry wall (sheet rock), its gypsum.

You can procede without it though. Its just preferable to have it in there

I could easily access free drywall if it would be beneficial to crush up and add. Thanks for the pointer.
