How many of you all are long haul truck drivers? I'm just now getting into it and might need some advice on what companies to try to go with.

i thought about it, but it sucks way to fucking much driving on highways just in cars and regular pickup trucks. It would blow my fucking mind trying to merge with traffic and switch lanes in those busy ass citys with all the stupid roads in a huge semi, and there's lots of times when you HAVE to switch lands before you plow into a fucking wall and the assholes won't slow down or speed up to let u merge
oh and almost all truck drives end up with fucked up backs and get surgury, so there's that too. And alot of companys make u pay for the fuel or truck maintence, gotta read that fine print n shit.
Then if your truck does break down, i think i heard they send another truck driver out and then you get fucked out of the pay or something like that

What do you mean by line drivers? Because I have a 2yr old I would want to be home often as possible. I use to work underground in the coal mines but the coal is doing bad now I've been laid off 3 times in a year and been unemployed for 4 months now so I had to do something else.

i work with big rigs
yea the bills for truck maintenance can get rather expensive, but the pay is usually pretty decent for the work that u do, and u get to sit on ur ass mostly all day.
u know u need a special license for that right?.. i'd get to it if u havent already, that;s probably a good first step

A line driver normally drives from one city to another spends downtime there...
With return trip back to the original city ...
Your home every other day...
Central freight,Saia, or many of the other freight companies use line drivers.
Hope this helps, because family is important, driving Long haul would give you very little home time.

I'm sorta in the business. Every other company talks SHIT about each other so don't worry about finding the best. You don't have to pay for maintenance or fuel unless you are a owner/operator which takes many years to build up to. You obviously need a CDL to drive big rigs which you can go to school for. It's a 15 week class and 10 of which is a paid internship. After that you get barrated with job offers from other companies.
