Biological Teleportation

Geneticist genius and entrepreneur, Craig Venter, is breaking yet more new ground. (He and his team created the first synthetic living cell!) With leading edge computers in a brand new, zero-carbon facility, he is able to sequence DNA many tens of thousands of times faster than ever before.
While this will lead to new medicines and vaccines, his coolest vision is biological teleportation. This is NOT sci-fi as all of the technology is doable and the pieces are coming together quickly.
His grandest vision is to have equipment on the next Mars rover (or other non-Terran destination) equipped with a DNA sequencer to sequence an off-planet virus or bacteria (if it is also DNA-based), send the digital data back to earth and have it reconstructed using the four basic building blocks. No creatures will come to life to conquer the world, but it will open whole new vistas into alien life.
This bypasses the problems of having to ship samples back millions of miles and get possible Earth-side contamination.
Of course, there will be many other Terran uses of such technology; perhaps research labs sharing biological data around the globe.
Beam me up, Craig!

Yeah, good post, OC. I read Venter's book Life at the Speed of Light, which was all about this. He's very serious about implementing quantum teleportation into the field of genetics. If he's successful, it definitely will be a monumental achievement.

Oh great. More "medicine" and vaccines. Yippee.

In The Fly, how come his sequencer mixed up the fly with the human as if they were the only two life-forms in the pod? There are several thousand species of bacteria, archaea, fungi and acari in/on the human body plus many extant species on the walls of the pod.
I demand to know why!

Hah,
It's not really teleportation though. When I scan a document into my computer and someone prints it out somewhere else they didn't teleport my document. The original never went anywhere, and still exists. That's sort of weird. What if every time they used the transporter in Star Trek they were really creating a new Capt Kirk, and they had to just destroy the old one to avoid clone issues?

Probably swapped the two creatures which were closest in mass?

Humanity's fragile concept on grasping what life might possibly be will doom us all. Before attempting to recreate what is already fine tuned and finessed to the greatest degree(life), through endless amount of cycles we perceive as "time"; Is very very not so good... How many of you can genuinely say they are the devil? god? connected to the utter oneness? How many of you can perform a synthesis of what humans have vocalized as: "evil" "hate" "love". What is the mediator between all these cosmic happenings? I can explain to you why i am everything just as you are; you will still perceive it as however your imprints shape you to understand vocal or in this case literal "thoughts of another". Knowing this, how can ANYONE in their right mind recreate life for pure selfish reasons? ie: medicine, vaccines, bio-teleportation.
