Glowing blue stems. ID request
    #21700866 - 05/20/15 01:19 AM (8 years, 8 months ago)

http://

Found a bunch of these up at macedon. The stem was almost illuminated with this bright glowing blue. The spore print came out a dark rusty orange. I have since thrown them out and was sure to wash my hands soon after handling. But i am really interested in what they are.

I have a couple of the patch. But it was starting to get dark. So they didn't come out very well.

Blue/purple. Is there much difference. It was almost flurecent. Also the tops were similar to subs(they were wet) so older wet/rotting subs. A few had almost a rust like dust on top. Spores perhaps. I dunno.

People in Tasmania have reportedly been poisoned by mistaking Cortinarius sp., the blue and purple ones, for Psilocybe subaeruginosa, resulting in kidney and liver damage.

There is usually an article in our local newspaper warning of the dangers every couple of years, if not every year.

Dr. Gates at the University of Tasmania would be the one to talk to.

my own understanding has been that they are poisonous.  the purple and blue Corts are also know as false Blewetts, yes?
