Here's what I did today (with pics)

So, here's what I ended up doing today. Only got about half of what I needed to do done, though...
First off, I got my coffee seeds started. My first try about a month or so ago was a failure. I'm gonna try WSS's 'rinse method' this time. I started today by removing the paper coating on the seeds.
Here's the outer paper wrapping -

I was left with a bunch of seeds that looked like this -

Then, I removed the next layer of paper wrapping and was left with this -

Now, they need to soak for 24 hours, then after that they go through a cycle of rinsing with peroxide then water and remain moist in a jar until they sprout...
I was also able to repot a bunch of things that needed more grow room...
Rootbound salvia-

Rootbound kratom -

And, the pots they are going into-

I thought this was cool. It's where one of the original roots started from the stem and became exposed while I was repotting. I made sure to get this back below soil level when in the new pot -

Here's the salvia and kratom repotted into their new containers -

And finally, here's the rest of everything I repotted. Included are Miracle berry plants, Psychotria alba, a bunch of 'Vicks Plants' (Plectranthus tomentosa), a neglected aloe of some sort, some assorted succulents, a 'creeping jenny' ivy type plant, some poblano peppers that got knocked over and still need to be planted in the ground, an E. novo, and a partridge in a pear tree...

Damn, the pics are sideways! Sorry.

That is an awesome collection man!
Love that kratom, it looks how I imagine mine will after a month or two of steady growth! Maybe longer though, yours has much more foliage.
I have been meaning to start trying more with psycotria, I have failed at rooting at least 2-4 leaves of alba and virids, but have one left that may take.
Anyways nice work

Yes, nice job buddy that's a lot of work. The kratom and Salvia look great with lots of roots on each. Do you untangle/disturb the root masses when re-potting?

Absolutely! They were crammed in there too! The salvia root ball almost felt like I was breaking up an old piece of cork it was so thick. When I break up the roots, I try my best not to actually break them so much as untangle them though. I just call it breaking them up...

Thank you. Those little kratoms are ones I had take root later in the summer last year and they stayed inside over the winter. Now that the weather has warmed up, they have really taken off. I hope by the end of this summer (assuming I can keep up with repotting them) they will be at least 4 if not 5 feet tall. They really can grow that quickly if they have the room. They are each about a foot tall now.

Today, I repotted everything in my 'herb cutting tray' A whole bunch of rosemary and lavender, plus two types of oregano (spicy oregano, and regular oregano). The basil you see here were seed grown, not from the cuttings tray.
Front to back - Basil, Rosemary, Oregano, Lavender
Also found a certain little catha edulis that is finaly starting to do some branching near it's base.

And here is a pic I snapped that just makes the whole plant look pretty sad.... It's not that sad looking in real life, but it is leaning from when it hit a growth spurt when it was indoors. Hopefully the new branches will hold themselves up better since they will be exposed to wind and the elements.

Might give it a loose tether to a support pole anyway. It will still have room to move with the wind and strengthen, but in case of ridiculous winds, it will not snap. I just had ridiculous winds and rain this morning, my entire covered porch got soaked. All my trichs got watered, but they werent due.

And here's what I did today.
I've been meaning to get my Kratom tree in the ground for a month or two now. Winds have been knocking it over recently because it is getting too tall. Leaves start drooping after only a day after watering due to it all being drank up by the tree so quickly... I could tell it was rootbound because it wasn't putting on the growth it usually does... My problem was where to put it. I am notoriously indecisive in permanent decisions such as planting a plant/tree that will be somewhere for potentially forever.
But I finally decided it was time and found the most suitable spot I could decide on and started digging!
Beginning hole -

Yes, I am digging in flip-flops. Normally I do my work barefoot, but shoes became necessary to get the shovel through the soil-

Roots!

Tree next to it's final location-

Thickness of the 'trunk' at the base. Almost twice as wide as the length of the first joint on my thumb-

I pulled a bunch of clover and some grass that was growing in the pot with the tree and just chunked it in the hole... There was an unexpected layer of sand below the topsoil where I dug my hole so hopefully it doesn't cause too much of a problem...

Untangling root system to promote the root growth-

Tree in the ground!

Right now it is right at about 8 feet tall from the ground to the top. Sure seemed a lot taller in the pot, but I did take off a couple inches because I buried it slightly lower than the pot level...
I'm excited to see what the rest of the year will look like for this tree. I'm hoping to see some good growth on it when it settles into it's new home!
-------------------- One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. 'Which road do I take?' she asked. 'Where do you want to go?' was his response. 'I don't know', Alice answered. 'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'

The kratom is going to hulk out now it's in the ground.
Also, khat often does the fall over thing like yours is doing when young. Most of mine have done it and they're outdoors. The fallen bit will stay like that and the basal growth will become the dominant branches once they get going. Once I notice new growth like yours is doing I tend to give the plant a light tip prune. This just means I cut every branch back by 1 node. Doing this creates more tips and a bushier plant. If you're not after a bush then don't tip prune and it will grow upwards and become tree-like.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. Yes, I have made only a few successful cuttings from it. I have been working on my technique to try to get a higher success rate, but as it stands, my success is nothing to brag about. My best cuttings are over a foot tall now and should put on some nice growth this year.
I will be experimenting more this year with cuttings so hopefully I can share with the rest of you guys.

Thanks for the info. I will be pruning the tip back tomorrow, then. I would like to go for a bushier plant vs a super tall tree, I think. I haven't fully researched it yet, but I am sure in my climate USDA zone 8, I will have to bring it in during the winters so I am going to try to keep it in a large pot (maybe the pot the Kratom just came out of).
So by pruning the tip off the main branch here, would I expect that main branch to throw off new branches as well as the basal growth that is happening? Or does this just accelerate the basal growth?

Don't prune that base growth yet. It should continue to grow as it is while the tips you prune will concentrate on producing new shoots. You should get Two per branch.
I also think you'll need to protect it during your Winters. Mine have withstood temps as low as -4C without any problems.
I'm about to go out so I wont be able to reply for a while. If you have any more questions that is.

No, it wasn't... I was hoping the tree (and you guys) wouldn't notice lol.
It was twice as deep, and probably 1.5- 1.75 times as wide. I honestly just got tired of digging. Luckily though, the soil down deep was soft enough and I don't think it will have too much of a time spreading roots down there.

If you have good soil, it would not matter too much anyway. Here in Texas where I live, the soil is compacted clay and doesn't drain well. Too much rain lately is killing a pear tree I planted. Will have to redeem the guarantee at HD to get it replaced.

Here's some of the peas I got from spaceman. They are coming along nicely.

One of my pots of peres. They are really liking being outside. Look at all those leaves!
And bendy and flexible all the way down.
And a little pepper plant flowering-
Tag was lost but it is either one of my Bolivian Rainbows, or a plain ornamental pepper...
And here is one of my new acquisitions on the ride home with me. It is a Camellia sinensis. Tea!
Here's a couple neat looking orchids (sadly, not mine)

I have a couple more recipes to change it up a lil if you want just pm me and I'll get it to ya when your ready.
I'll fill you in when I get some word back from the seed company I had study them.

Sounds good man. I've been shelling them as I pick em and almost have a mason jar full. Seems like they are only just now kicking it into gear with their pod production.
Next year, I will give them more room in between plants... I started running out of garden space so I planted em like 18 inches apart but I think they would have done a lot better if I had the room to give em 3 or 4 feet between plants.

Couple quickie pics -
Paper Lantern Habanero

Bolivian Rainbow starting to show a color other than purple!

Khat starting to bush up. You can see the original growth draping off to the right. I nipped the tip of that one and now it is bushing nicely from the base

Hey buddy. Been really busy around here. Started a new job and been trying to manage my time around work to keep the plants happy. Doesn't leave a lot of time for much else... I haven't been posting around here nearly as much as I mean to....

Amazing work dude
You got any info on that Khat? like how easy is it to take cuttings from and what zones can it survive in?
Also has anyone here actually tried the plant to see what it's true effects are?

Well I was actually just discussing this with karode and naum in another thread, and they were telling me that the seed I got likely came from a commercial Khat farmer from South Africa that just flooded the market with his seeds when S.A. banned Khat.
If that's so, then this plant likely will not fall into the general Red or White or even the Broad and Narrow leaf categories generally associated with the plant.
This plant was started from seed right at a year ago. Out of the ~15 seeds or so I started with, 4 sprouted and this is the only one that survived to adulthood. It stayed really small over the winter and when the weather warmed up it really took off with growth.
As far as propagating it further, I understand that rooting cuttings is ridiculously hard. The best way is to wait for a sucker to come up from the base of the plant and dig it up and repot it. Apparently the White variety doesn't produce suckers as readily as the Red. But since this one here might be neither Red nor White, who knows how it will do...
This one here is likely too young to try to sample from and get much effect, although I hear the effect somewhere between a strong cup of coffe and a light amphetamine dose... But IDK. I chewed one leaf off this one when I nipped the tip off and it was absolutely not what I would call tasty... It didn't have the bitterness of Kratom, but it wasn't good...

Here's one of my Yaki Brown Habaneros.

Brug rooted cutting I just put outside.

One of my bigger dragonfruit plants. I really need to get this thing a stake and a bigger pot.

Khat

My garden buddy. I watched this skink run across my back yard almost the whole time I was outside this afternoon. He went about his business stalking around and eating bugs. Even jumped up off the ground at a huge hornet that was flying around him. Later on, while I was weeding dragonfruit pots, he even crawled over my foot

I personally love scoth bonnets. They're like a more flavorful alternative to habaneros. They are more fruity than traditional chillis. Anchos are great cooking peppers. You can stuff em.with anything and they have just a touch of heat.

Well I just did another two graft attempts. This will make like attempt number 5 and 6 for me with grafts... Spaceman, I'm trying out what you suggested this time with an actual humidity chamber and made sure not to move the scion at all once it was placed on the graft. Hopefully I'll get something to take this time. Wish me luck.

Heh, I did a graft this morning because my scion was pupping towards the stock, and I didn't want it to separate. I also used Spaceman's advice of not moving it once placed.
This is my first graft that was done outside. There is a humidity chamber on my porch.

...why hasn't an outdoor humidity chamber ever come to mind for me? I spent like 30 mins getting a desk in place and moving things around to get my humidity chamber where I wanted it.
But yeah, maybe not moving the graft when putting the scion on will help. I can see how it could help... I had always read that I needed to place the scion on and slide it into place and press it to get any air out. But maybe I will be more successful the way I tried this time...

All of my pereskiopsis was moved outside. I had a single plant growing in a small pot with some aloes. I grafted to that one. I didn't want to bring outside soil indoors, so I threw one of my domes over it on the porch. It gets diffused morning light.

Repotted my Miracle Berry plants. I read somewhere that they like very acidic soil and to use a 60%+ peat moss mix for them, so that's what I did... Hopefully they respond well.
A variety of Aloe I have starting to pup out. This was 5 days ago
 This is today.
Bolivian Rainbow throwing out some nice colors
Two additions to my collection. Spearmint and Chocolate Mint.
Passionfruit cuttings starting to show a bunch of new growth.
Two more grafts I started. First is Bridge x Juuls Giant and second is a Willie.

I am jealous of your miracle berries and mint collection, I need to get on both of those myself.
Also I am said I didn't get any rainbow peppers out this year. Maybe I will try and start some early this winter in a heated greenhouse.
Nice grafts too, I am still just massing my pere so I will have tons of extra thick rooted ones to graft with.

I was wondering what kind of aloe it was. It was given to me as an "Equadorian Aloe" - whatever that means.
But it absolutely does grow very tall and lanky.

Naw, mine came from my Grandmother who got it from her neighbor. The neighbor said it was 'Equadorian Aloe'... I'm sure it is either what you mentioned, or what spacey mentioned. I haven't looked either of them up yet, so IDK.

Update.
Here's some of my African Violets I started from leaf cuttings last year

A Brug I rooted not too long ago from a small cutting

A good part of my cacti collection.

My most recent graft attempt. I'm trying out spacey's method this time to see how it works. It's been nearly a week since I took this pic and the graft seems like it might have taken this time...

After finding a wild passion fruit vine for the first time in my life and getting some cuttings going, I noticed these growing on my fence in my yard! They've never grown there before, and this is the first year I have ever seen a passion fruit growing around here in my life, and now it has just volunteered in my yard of all places!!!

I repotted a couple of my Kratom trees today. They get rootbound quickly!

My newest addition - Optuna! I was on a job today and the person who's house we were at let me have a pad off their plant.

From front to back, Lemon Balm, Chocolate Mint, and Spearmint

My two little Acacia confusas

Pineapple ripening

Another recent addition - little 'Ice Plant' cuttings

Last but not least, the front door of one of my beehives.

Woodworking is rad. I have a dream to one day build my own guitar
I used to have a woodworking class and the teacher hated me I was always making rubber band guns and stuff and fucking around majorly.
We had top fights too, even made a top arena for them to battle in. I swear sometimes one would go flying 10-20 feet.

I was just about to suggest the same thing. Bees definitely are pretty specific about the dimensions of their living quarters.

Yeah, probably. I just put my largest Kratom in the ground this summer (during your move, I believe). It got too big to try to keep pulling it inside every winter. Here's a pic

I took that the day I planted it. Now that I look at that pic, I notice how much it has actually grown since then. I'll have to get an updated pic of what it looks like now. I hope it does well over the winter and doesn't suffer too much, only time will tell, but I didn't really have much of an option due to it's size.
As far as trichs go, I should probably try to put a couple in the ground to see how it does, but I kind of got a scare last winter. I have all mine in pots and left them outside a little too long and they got hit with an early frost, and practically all my plant's growth tips suffered frost damage. I guess if I were to plant them out, I would have to cover them or something for the winter.
Does anybody here have cacti in the ground that they cover for the winter? Would that work? Or am I just out of luck for cacti in the ground? I'm in Zone 8.
And in other news, I think I finally might have my Kratom rooting figured out! Haven't lost a single one out of nearly 50 (or so) I started over the last few weeks. Soooo..... everybody keep a look out in the marketplace in the next few weeks for some Kratom babies FT...

Right on man, your Kratom is a beauty
Are you in zone 8A,or 8B? I think they can successfully be grown outdoors in the ground in either 8B,or 9A upwards. I'm in 9B,and I put a few cuttings out in the ground near where I fish.
It's rained nearly everyday that I've been here, but they are still kicking!

I'm just BARELY in 8B. What are you referring to that can be grown in 8B and up? Cacti or Kratom? I would love to get some cacti in the ground for them to get their roots spread out nicely. I hope the Kratom makes it - but I honestly didn't have much of a choice in that matter. It literally wouldn't fit through the door at this point to come inside for the winter any more. I couldn't get it outside in the spring without almost knocking off every leaf and breaking the branches.

That's all the motivation I need, then. This week I'm gonna plant one or two in the ground and see how they do. Do you have any outdoors? Do you (or anybody else reading) find they need to cover their cacti to keep them from getting frost damage?

Here's today's pepper harvest -

Bottom to top- Jalapeno, Thai Chili pepper, Paper Lantern Habanero, Moruga Scorpion pepper.
And here's another shot of one of my Bolivian Rainbows. It's starting to display a larger variety of colors. I love this plant. It just got watered after a hot day, so it's a little droopier than normal.

Beautiful man
I forget, did you get the Bolivian seeds from me?
Mine is super bushy, but no fruits due to the fact that I don't get full sun
Yours looks amazing though, and I would overwinter it to put out next spring.
They will live for years this way,and mine will be going on three next spring!

Nice Rainbow peppers too, I was sad I didn't sow any this year, but I definitely will next year.

Yeah, they came from you. Thank you again, btw! I have never successfully overwintered a pepper plant before. I tried one last winter and it didn't make it, but I think that might be because I didn't prune it back any when I brought it in...
Besides the two Bolivian Rainbows I have, I am also going to try to bring the Jalapeno, Thai, Paper Lantern Hab, Yaki Brown Hab, and Moruga Scorpions in this winter.

They are! Especially the Moruga. Unless something has recently changed, the Moruga Scorpion holds the title of world's second hottest pepper clocking in at over 2,000,000 Scoville units (that's twice as hot as a 'Ghost Pepper'). I convinced they guys at work to eat some of them the other day and the reactions were hilarious! (They knew what they were, though, I'm not mean enough to trick someone like that)

I thought you were the one who first mentioned overwintering, that is why. I could have just been / out of it in general
I may attempt moving some inside or too a heated greenhouse too at least extend their season. It is cooling down a lot here already

You don't really have to prune the Bolivians to bring them in,but it does help. Peppers are really easy to overwinter, and during the winter months just grow em like you do your houseplants until you put them out the following spring. Supplemental lighting,or a good sunny window helps tremendously though!

Good to hear they shouldn't give me too much trouble. I don't know why I lost mine before. Probably didn't give them enough attention I guess. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I shouldn't expect much, if any growth from them over the winter, right?

Here's a couple things I took some pictures of that didn't really belong in any other threads...
First up - the first of my Key Lime seeds are sprouting!

And here is a plastic container I have on the back porch that some frogs decided was a perfect breeding pond. I noticed tadpoles in it earlier this summer and didn't have the heart to dump out the rainwater...

After lots of waiting, I finally noticed a fully formed 'adult' crawling out of the 'pond'

Check out what came in the mail today! My first bridge cuttings! Also got a small pach, a few 'Mexican Fence Post', and a 'Fish Hook' Barrel Cactus. Those spines look vicious!

Here's a few more pics from around the garden today.
Banana flower! I was surprised by my recently transplanted banana tree throwing out a flower pod!

My daggas flowers are finally opening! Bad pic, I was almost shooting into the sun...

Couple pics of Bolivian Rainbow peppers

Today's pepper harvest (plus some okra top-right)

And I have an aloe starting to flower! Never had one do that before, I thought it was neat...

I doubt that it would accept the graft, spaceman. The 2 plants I feel, are not closely related enough... Now, if it were done with a Puya, or maybe some kind of large Bromeliad, maybe. (since pineapples are related to them and air plants too).

Got a bit of a picture dump from the last couple days. Enjoy
Here's my novo. That's a quart jar next to it for comparison. They are filled with a part of this year's harvest of the peas Spaceman sent me. (Thanks again spacey).

Here's a graft I did tonight, have been meaning to do these for a bit now. They are little willies. Fingers crossed.

Here's one of my new cacti additions I got in a trade recently. It's a 'Fishhook barrel cactus'

Grafted 'Juul's Giant x SS02'

Little willy graft (my first)

My first ever graft, peruvianus

Here's a small bit of my peres 'mothers'

Got an intruder in one of my Kratom pots...
 (It's a tomato, if you didn't know)
Here's a quick pic of one of my Bolivian Rainbows, doing extremely well

My 'second generation pineapple' finally went out and joined the others

Random succulent overflowing its pot

Other random succulents recently added

Two of my psychotrias just repotted

A couple other psychotrias showing some growth and starting to branch after clipping their tips

My key limes starting to grow a little more, and more sprouting.

Bad pic of my recently acquired Bridge cuttings

Basil plants getting ready to have seeds collected.

Khat update. About a foot tall now.

The experimental ground layering branch is turning its leaves full red... Not sure that's a good thing.

Lemon on lemon tree

Part of cacti collection, mostly pachs. An optuna, and a peruvianus.

Tallest one is just about 3ft from the soil level

And here's some pics showing off one of my in-ground Moruga Scorpions. This bush is the largest pepper plant I have ever grown. Its nearly 5ft by 3 ft in area. Just realized I forgot to get a height measurement on it... It's probably about 3ft high. The stalk is over an inch in diameter coming out of the ground. The peppers (they are still developing) are nearly 2in x 2in (their final shape is normally vaguely spherical).

Here is a couple pics of the dagga I've got going. Not the best pics. Here are some of the flowers. What's the procedure for getting seed from these things? Do you wait until the flowers all die? Do they produce pods of some sort? Anybody have experience with this?

A poor attempt at trying to show the height of the tallest one. Can't really tell from the pic, but its right at 11 feet tall.

Annnnd, last but not least. Here's my first wave of Kratom cuttings finally rooted, transplanted, and recovering for trading! Should be plenty more to come before the cold gets here.

Great job cRm
Now that's a hell of a picture dump
Those albas look nice and I really hope mine pop out a stock soon before winter starts.
I was wondering about your khat plant. Did you grow it from seed or aquire a cutting? I've always heard it was best to air layer them but I've never been able to get my hands on one so I don't know for sure.
Hopefully sometime next year I can add khat to my collection and hopefully an E. Novo as well
Do you know how long it usually takes in the lower USA from seed to seed harvest with E. Novo? Also are propagation by cuttings a good way to spread the plant out or is it only seeds? Beside the plant there you have a nice lil collection of Granny peas and I was wondering how you liked them and how did you harvest them "Dry harvest or fresh harvest"?
And finally where's your Yaki Brown plant?

The Khat was grown from seed. This is the only one that made it to adulthood from about 10-12 seeds I think. About 5 others sprouted but they all died when made an out of town trip and the 'plant sitter' failed in their duties...
Yeah, Khat is pretty hard to get cuttings from, from what I hear. Apparently a common way to get one is from digging up a rooted sucker from an older plant. I may try air layering next year on it, I've never done any sort of layering before this. I just happened to have an empty pot next to this one and the branch was already leaning that way. It just seemed like a sign to try it...
As far as I know, the best way to go with novo is to start with berries... I haven't honestly looked into doing cuttings from it, so I don't know how common it is to attempt them, but from the reading I have done, I know a lot of the south american growers do cuttings and apparently they are pretty reliable for them. In fact, one variety of E. coca doesn't produce seed and is only done through cuttings.
I've read estimates for when they first start setting seed ranging from 2 to 5 years. So I guess, best case scenario, Seed to seed you are looking at 2-3 years. Leaf harvest usually starts when the plant hits ~2yrs.
The peas are awesome! I've only had some mixed in with other things in a soup so far, but they are great! I've got quite a bit left too. I started off harvesting them when they were still green and plump, but for one, they were a lot tricker to shell like that, and two I would forget to harvest them every day so when I did I ended up picking a lot of dry pods. So that's what I ended up doing. Just letting em dry then pick em, then shell em.
I'm definitely going to trellis them next year like I think I saw you did with yours. For some reason I thought they were going to bush, but those things crawled all over the place. I think the yield will be better that way too.
Somehow, I didn't get a pic of my Yaki in there. I'll go get one for ya. That thing is busting out with a TON of peppers. I think it's my most prolific pepper I have this year. How long do you wait till you pick yours? Do you let them completely change color? Mine are going from green to brown pretty quickly, then taking forever to change after that.

Nother update... Hopefully it's not too long for you guys to read, I've been pretty busy recently and haven't had much time to keep the updates coming.
Here's an 'Ice Plant' cutting I got from a friend and is flowering nicely. Gotta find a place to plant in the ground come springtime for some nice ground cover.

Here's my Aloe in flower

A spider on my pineapple sage eating a snack

Random shot of one of my trichs...

Tiny little pup on Bridgesii.

Newly sprouted Mimosa pudica seedlings.

Moruga scorpion bush in full swing. This wave of peppers completely filled up a plastic walmart bag... Most of which were sold

Looking through these pics reminds me I really need to get some up-to-date pics posted. Enjoy

That is a nice pepper bush! I bet those things are fiery, they sure look like it.
I have never even thought of selling peppers but that's a good idea, I bet some of the more rare/ super spicy ones aren't cheap.

Yeah, it really did well in the ground this year. Normally I grow hot peppers in pots but that one was one of the extras and I put it in the ground. A little further up in the thread I put up a pic of it with a measuring tape reading 5 feet across the width of the bush... Biggest pepper plant I've ever grown.
I'ts a Moruga Scorpion pepper. 2nd hottest pepper behind the Carolina Reaper... Tops out at over 2,000,000 Scoville units (Ghost pepper is about 1,000,000). I was selling them 4 for a dollar, and sold a TON of em....

They definitely do a lot better in the ground then in pots, I did a bit of both myself and the ones in the ground got much bigger.
Though I had some in bigger pots which actually got pretty damn big in a greenhouse.
4 for a dollar is pretty good, I may have to try that in the future... I also have wanted to try home making spices to sell.
Such as dried n powdered roasted habenero.

MMMM that sounds nice! You could almost make a little business out of it if you kept at it. I bought a powdered dip mix once at a market. It was a 'Habanero and Green Chili' mix. Can't remember how much I paid for it. The ingredients read - Onion, Habanero peppers, green chili peppers, garlic, salt, parsley, oregano and cilantro. You mix the spice mix with a cup of sour cream and a cup of mayo and have a dip. It WAS delicious, but when I ate it all I could think of was what kind of profit margin those people were clearing by selling little bags of ground up herbs and peppers....
I was suprised how well the peppers sold, honestly. I was getting pestered to contribute something for the sale so I just threw in the peppers and some other things and made out pretty decently. I also threw in some rosemary plants, lavender plants, and a single pineapple plant (all grown by myself) into the sale just to see what kind of interest I got. All I can say is that I know next spring I really need to get crackin on starting herbs and seedlings of all kinds to sell! The plants were the first things bought at the sale!

I know this isn't really plant related necessarily, but I went hunting the other day, and instead of tracking down anything to put in the freezer, I found a ton of mushrooms. Not really a ton, but it was the most mushrooms I've ever seen in one trip. Unfortunately, my edible mush ID game isn't the greatest so the only thing that came home with me was Amanita.
Don't really know what this is, but it looked cool

Also found a couple bunches of this. Lion's mane?

Not sure what this one was, but the sun lined up with it pretty nicely

Then there was more than a few trees that had deformations like this and thought it looked cool.

And finally, Amanitas!

I see lions mane "for sure"
White Amanita "Death angel" Pretty sure
The growth looks strange. Is it completely woody?

Yup completely woody (I guess). There was quite a few trees doing this out there. The guy that owned the land (like 1500 acres of wooded/swampy land) said they were called 'burls' or 'burrels'...

This one is a Laetiporus sp.. Probably Laetiporus sulphureus, aka, Chicken of the woods.
Spaceman's id's are correct as well.
Before you eat anything post an id request in the Mushroom hunting forum. I'm not from the US so it's wise to get a second opinion from a local, although I'm confident that I'm correct.

It was a pretty sweet pic, wasn't it? I thought it turned out pretty nicely. (Sounded kind of full of myself there)
I haven't eaten (and am pretty sure I will never eat) the suspected Amanitas. Although, while I'm not a Mushroom ID expert, I'm nearly 100% sure they in fact DO grow this far south, but they are much more rare to see down here (I've even seen folks in my home state in the Mush ID forum finding A muscaria). That's why I was so surprised to find so many... But both of you questioning what I thought I had has me heading over to the Mush ID forum and see what they say. I'll report back with whatever they come up with. Either way, though, like I said, I'll probably never do anything with them, I just brought them home because I rarely ever stumble across them and might need them for a rainy day...
Chicken of the Woods, you say??? Awesome! Never found that before. I'll have to keep that spot in mind for next time!

It is pretty rare. At least in my experience. I'll put it this way, I found more of them that day than I have found in the rest of my life combined....
Not to mention the other awesome edibles I found... That piece of property is definitely crawling with some awesome things.

Here is an updated pic of one of the little containers of Mimosa pudica I started a while ago. How many of you have experience growing these things? I want to transplant these to a container with more room for the roots, but I'm not sure how they will handle a transplanting... Will I be able to separate these into individual containers without stressing them out too much? Or should I just upsize the whole bunch together?
