Cacti can only be grafted to other cacti. Aloe sp. are not cacti :themoreyouknow:

Got a bit of a picture dump from the last couple days. Enjoy

Here's my novo. That's a quart jar next to it for comparison. They are filled with a part of this year's harvest of the peas Spaceman sent me. (Thanks again spacey).

Here's a graft I did tonight, have been meaning to do these for a bit now. They are little willies. Fingers crossed.

Here's one of my new cacti additions I got in a trade recently.
It's a 'Fishhook barrel cactus'

Grafted 'Juul's Giant x SS02'

Little willy graft (my first)

My first ever graft, peruvianus

Here's a small bit of my peres 'mothers'

Got an intruder in one of my Kratom pots...

(It's a tomato, if you didn't know)

Here's a quick pic of one of my Bolivian Rainbows, doing extremely well

My 'second generation pineapple' finally went out and joined the others

Random succulent overflowing its pot

Other random succulents recently added

Two of my psychotrias just repotted

A couple other psychotrias showing some growth and starting to branch after clipping their tips

My key limes starting to grow a little more, and more sprouting.

Bad pic of my recently acquired Bridge cuttings

Basil plants getting ready to have seeds collected.

Khat update. About a foot tall now.

The experimental ground layering branch is turning its leaves full red... Not sure that's a good thing.

Lemon on lemon tree

Part of cacti collection, mostly pachs. An optuna, and a peruvianus.

Tallest one is just about 3ft from the soil level

And here's some pics showing off one of my in-ground Moruga Scorpions. This bush is the largest pepper plant I have ever grown. Its nearly 5ft by 3 ft in area. Just realized I forgot to get a height measurement on it... It's probably about 3ft high. The stalk is over an inch in diameter coming out of the ground. The peppers (they are still developing) are nearly 2in x 2in (their final shape is normally vaguely spherical).

Here is a couple pics of the dagga I've got going. Not the best pics.
Here are some of the flowers. What's the procedure for getting seed from these things? Do you wait until the flowers all die? Do they produce pods of some sort? Anybody have experience with this?

A poor attempt at trying to show the height of the tallest one. Can't really tell from the pic, but its right at 11 feet tall.

Annnnd, last but not least. Here's my first wave of Kratom cuttings finally rooted, transplanted, and recovering for trading! Should be plenty more to come before the cold gets here.

Great job cRm:congrats:

Now that's a hell of a picture dump:smirk:

Those albas look nice and I really hope mine pop out a stock soon before winter starts.

I was wondering about your khat plant. Did you grow it from seed or aquire a cutting? I've always heard it was best to air layer them but I've never been able to get my hands on one so I don't know for sure.

Hopefully sometime next year I can add khat to my collection and hopefully an E. Novo as well:grin:

Do you know how long it usually takes in the lower USA from seed to seed harvest with E. Novo? Also are propagation by cuttings a good way to spread the plant out or is it only seeds? Beside the plant there you have a nice lil collection of Granny peas and I was wondering how you liked them and how did you harvest them "Dry harvest or fresh harvest"?

And finally where's your Yaki Brown plant?

The Khat was grown from seed. This is the only one that made it to adulthood from about 10-12 seeds I think. About 5 others sprouted but they all died when made an out of town trip and the 'plant sitter' failed in their duties...

Yeah, Khat is pretty hard to get cuttings from, from what I hear. Apparently a common way to get one is from digging up a rooted sucker from an older plant. I may try air layering next year on it, I've never done any sort of layering before this. I just happened to have an empty pot next to this one and the branch was already leaning that way. It just seemed like a sign to try it...

As far as I know, the best way to go with novo is to start with berries... I haven't honestly looked into doing cuttings from it, so I don't know how common it is to attempt them, but from the reading I have done, I know a lot of the south american growers do cuttings and apparently they are pretty reliable for them. In fact, one variety of E. coca doesn't produce seed and is only done through cuttings.

I've read estimates for when they first start setting seed ranging from 2 to 5 years. So I guess, best case scenario, Seed to seed you are looking at 2-3 years. Leaf harvest usually starts when the plant hits ~2yrs.

The peas are awesome! I've only had some mixed in with other things in a soup so far, but they are great! I've got quite a bit left too. I started off harvesting them when they were still green and plump, but for one, they were a lot tricker to shell like that, and two I would forget to harvest them every day so when I did I ended up picking a lot of dry pods. So that's what I ended up doing. Just letting em dry then pick em, then shell em.

I'm definitely going to trellis them next year like I think I saw you did with yours. For some reason I thought they were going to bush, but those things crawled all over the place. I think the yield will be better that way too.

Somehow, I didn't get a pic of my Yaki in there. I'll go get one for ya. That thing is busting out with a TON of peppers. I think it's my most prolific pepper I have this year.  How long do you wait till you pick yours? Do you let them completely change color? Mine are going from green to brown pretty quickly, then taking forever to change after that.

Nother update... Hopefully it's not too long for you guys to read, I've been pretty busy recently and haven't had much time to keep the updates coming.

Here's an 'Ice Plant' cutting I got from a friend and is flowering nicely. Gotta find a place to plant in the ground come springtime for some nice ground cover.

Here's my Aloe in flower

A spider on my pineapple sage eating a snack

Random shot of one of my trichs...

Tiny little pup on Bridgesii.

Newly sprouted Mimosa pudica seedlings.

Moruga scorpion bush in full swing. This wave of peppers completely filled up a plastic walmart bag... Most of which were sold

Looking through these pics reminds me I really need to get some up-to-date pics posted. Enjoy

That is a nice pepper bush! I bet those things are fiery, they sure look like it.

I have never even thought of selling peppers but that's a good idea, I bet some of the more rare/ super spicy ones aren't cheap.

Yeah, it really did well in the ground this year. Normally I grow hot peppers in pots but that one was one of the extras and I put it in the ground.  A little further up in the thread I put up a pic of it with a measuring tape reading 5 feet across the width of the bush... Biggest pepper plant I've ever grown.

I'ts a Moruga Scorpion pepper. 2nd hottest pepper behind the Carolina Reaper... Tops out at over 2,000,000 Scoville units (Ghost pepper is about 1,000,000). I was selling them 4 for a dollar, and sold a TON of em....

They definitely do a lot better in the ground then in pots, I did a bit of both myself and the ones in the ground got much bigger.

Though I had some in bigger pots which actually got pretty damn big in a greenhouse.

4 for a dollar is pretty good, I may have to try that in the future... I also have wanted to try home making spices to sell.

Such as dried n powdered roasted habenero.

MMMM that sounds nice!
You could almost make a little business out of it if you kept at it. I bought a powdered dip mix once at a market. It was a 'Habanero and Green Chili' mix. Can't remember how much I paid for it. The ingredients read - Onion, Habanero peppers, green chili peppers, garlic, salt, parsley, oregano and cilantro. You mix the spice mix with a cup of sour cream and a cup of mayo and have a dip. It WAS delicious, but when I ate it all I could think of was what kind of profit margin those people were clearing by selling little bags of ground up herbs and peppers....

I was suprised how well the peppers sold, honestly. I was getting pestered to contribute something for the sale so I just threw in the peppers and some other things and made out pretty decently. I also threw in some rosemary plants, lavender plants, and a single pineapple plant (all grown by myself) into the sale just to see what kind of interest I got. All I can say is that I know next spring I really need to get crackin on starting herbs and seedlings of all kinds to sell! The plants were the first things bought at the sale!

I know this isn't really plant related necessarily, but I went hunting the other day, and instead of tracking down anything to put in the freezer, I found a ton of mushrooms. Not really a ton, but it was the most mushrooms I've ever seen in one trip. Unfortunately, my edible mush ID game isn't the greatest so the only thing that came home with me was Amanita.

Don't really know what this is, but it looked cool

Also found a couple bunches of this. Lion's mane?

Not sure what this one was, but the sun lined up with it pretty nicely

Then there was more than a few trees that had deformations like this and thought it looked cool.

And finally, Amanitas!

White Amanita "Death angel" Pretty sure

The growth looks strange. Is it completely woody?

Yup completely woody (I guess). There was quite a few trees doing this out there. The guy that owned the land (like 1500 acres of wooded/swampy land) said they were called 'burls' or 'burrels'...

This one is a Laetiporus sp.. Probably Laetiporus sulphureus, aka, Chicken of the woods.

Spaceman's id's are correct as well.

Before you eat anything post an id request in the Mushroom hunting forum. I'm not from the US so it's wise to get a second opinion from a local, although I'm confident that I'm correct.

It was a pretty sweet pic, wasn't it? I thought it turned out pretty nicely. (Sounded kind of full of myself there)

I haven't eaten (and am pretty sure I will never eat) the suspected Amanitas. Although, while I'm not a Mushroom ID expert, I'm nearly 100% sure they in fact DO grow this far south, but they are much more rare to see down here (I've even seen folks in my home state in the Mush ID forum finding A muscaria). That's why I was so surprised to find so many... But both of you questioning what I thought I had has me heading over to the Mush ID forum and see what they say. I'll report back with whatever they come up with. Either way, though, like I said, I'll probably never do anything with them, I just brought them home because I rarely ever stumble across them and might need them for a rainy day...

Chicken of the Woods, you say??? Awesome! Never found that before. I'll have to keep that spot in mind for next time!
