Jbaby's First Go With WBS/Bulk!

So after a few successes with cakes and a growing addiction to this hobby, I decided it was time for bulk!
I chose to use WBS. I prepared 6 jars of wbs following this no cook Tek. However, I did not have gypsum at the time. I do have gypsum now though for the mono tub.
I knocked up one jar with a piece of agar. I took clone tissue from a sexy fruit and used this agar Tek because I'm cheap It works well though.
I let the jar colonize up until about 40% and then shook it. It finished colonizing 7 days later. So I decided to try my hands at g2g. I have a super tiny SAB so it was a bit of a challenge. I'll "upgrade" it later to a larger one. Anywho, I've left my other PCed grain jars sit in the PC for the last two weeks. I go to open my PC and to my surprise

Fuck those jars! I threw them out. Good thing I bought new ones earlier today.
I'll assume that's trich. I almost dropped the jar taking it out because it was so disgusting. I feel like I need to bathe in bleach now. I lost two of the remaining 5, which left me with 3 to knock up. That's my first experience with trich or any contam. I'll definitely be doing a mini mono.
The grain didn't seem wet although the tops of the lids were moist after pcing. Maybe I didn't rinse it well enough? It did still have quite a bit of cracked corn in there but I'm having trouble finding wbs without it. I'll probably pc my next batch longer. I assume that whether or not I let them sit for the last two weeks, those two were gonna trich out anyways. Or maybe I let them sit too long and that's what happened?
This is what the others look like after knocking them up.
That's all for now. I'll keep you guys posted!

If WBS doesn't work out for you, try whole oats. Easy prep, similar cost and they work great. Good luck!

I'll definitely give it a shot. I'm considering rye too.

If you can afford rye, do it!

Do you think wbs has a higher chance of contam compared to rye or oats?

As long as you sterilize the wbs for long enough I don't see why it would contam and more than rye or oats.
I've been using cheap wbs for over 6 months and the only contams I have came from me using poorly prepared LCs or from bad sterile technique during G2G.

Thanks Dhearic, that's good to know. I need to work on my sterile technique.

Mold in multiple spawn jars is from dirty inoculate. Molds cannot stand high heat and is killed by simple pasteurization temps. We sterilize or grains at the temps and times we do to kill the bacteria that can survive far more extreme temps.

Yeah I feel like I didn't pc my grains long enough. It was my second time using my pc and I'm still trying to find the sweet spot for keeping it at 15 psi without the heat being too high. I prepared the jars together and just let the wbs sit in those jars for a couple of weeks while one of them colonized with an agar wedge. The nasty jars only contained the wbs.

I doubt it was the sterilization run. If you only steamed the jars that would be enough to kill the mold spores. Most molds including trich die after 30 min at 130 f. If the contam was raging baccilus then the sterilization could be suspect. With mold in the jars its either bad filters, sloppy technique or bad inoculate. Since its more than one jar I suspect inoculate unless you fucked up all the filters/lids.
