Sounded like a very fun time.  The first time I hunted the bluffs was just before the park opened to the public.  That's when I got my special collecting license.  It basically says the holder may collect any plant, animal, fish, game, mushroom etc by any means necessary.  We were doing the survey of the park and all species that occurred.  I worked on the mushrooms there all weekend, back then I was chair of the fungi section of the PA biological survey.  A few of the morels there seemed a little different so I sent them off for DNA.  Just my luck the test did not produce results.  We did find one rare species there.  My best collecting for non edibles was going down the little creek.

thanks for the comments! thats cool that there's maybe something undescribed right there, except that we keep eating it.

maybe we should send a piece off for DNA next time (i use 'we' loosely here, as it likely won't include 'me' in that)

nice try x - i don't think you're gonna get one of those licenses
i'm guessing thats like getting the "double Oh" rating for naturalists  with the "by any means necessary" clause.

i can see you explaining why you were fishing with dynamite... and waving your license around in one hand and your net in the other
"honnest! i'm allowed!

Made a midnight snack of some breaded and fried COTW along with a dipping sauce made from Rural's maple syrup, hoisin and a splash of fish sauce. The chickens were dope, but the sauce needs some tweaking. I used a bit too much hoisin and there's a missing secret ingredient I haven't figured out yet.

Kuo says that it looks like it's within the morphological variability of M. angusticeps.
