What kind of mushroom madness is growing in this bathroom?
    #21699536 - 05/19/15 06:33 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping you can help me identify this mushroom growing in the shower of a property I manage. These photos are sent directly from the tenant living there today and I want to know is it safe for me to scrape off and remove myself? Or do professionals need to be called?

I have honestly never seen anything like it before, specially with the dry climate of Colorado. I should mention this is a large shower and I know ventilation could be better, its also a steam shower so can get very hot at times, probably perfect conditions for fungus to grow. Its growing right between the aluminum window frame and ceramic tile.

Thanks for your help with details on this type and how should I clean it off?

Doesn't look good. There's gotta be a water leak causing really rotten wood that it's growing off of that will need to be torn out and replaced. I have no idea what it is, but it sure looks cool!

Go to home depo and get a gallon of mildex and use it after you clean it all up.  I would even use some bleach a few days later.

It looks like it could be some sort of conk.

you could cut that back and clean it up, but i bet you have some major rot going on there and you might need to investigate deeper to see if there is any mycelium, and to see how far it spreads.  it may be indicative of another problem, i.e. water leak or some other drainage issue.

Why would you ever let something grow that big in your bathroom? :uhoh:

I know it's not in "your" bathroom, it's just blowing my mind.  :rofl2:

Omg wtf, please get some better pictures with more light.  This is really cool! It looks like a cross between a Crepidotus and a Polyporales s.l.

lolz@ its still there

if it were me, i'd take an old plastic grocery bag and reach through the 'bottom' to grab that thing and envelope it as you pick it up.

gas mask not necessary, but maybe a strong gut is

- i forgot to add - start eviction proceedings against tenant that leaves that grow and then hit the whole apt. with bleach
