Grain Frustration

With the coming spring I decided to try another round of monotubs. I prepared a lot of grain (a lot for me anyway) and was very excited to start working with spawn bags.
I PC'd medium sized bags with 4qts of rye berries in each (9 total) I also did 3 bags of the same size but with 6qts of WBS. PC'd at 15psi for 90 minutes. I used an old LC master that was taking up space in the specimens fridge. I expanded it from 25ml to 5 quart LME LC's. The cultures exploded in no time.
I inoculated all of the bags with this culture (ps cubensis cambodia).... allow some time to pass

3 bags were prepared on 4/5 and that is a pic of what has emerged. the rest of the bags were prepared on 5/9 but are following the same course. What I really want to know is what sort of contamination is this? Could this be a contamination from not being pc'd long enough, or is it more than likely from the LC that I used? Any input would be much appreciated folks.

90% of contamination can be traced back to bad cultures.
I do love liquid cultures, and I have a few tips to get clean ones.
First, start with 10-15 jars of LC. PC them for 15-40 min.
Inoculate ALL of them with MS
If any growth is over the size of a pea in 4 days, toss the culture. That "exploding" you are seeing is Trich. It does indeed explode and it is a dead give away that your LC is bad when it happens. Real LC's start out as very tiny little blobs then grow big. Trich just goes crazy and only takes 1-3 days to take over all available nutrients in the jar.
So, when inoculating your jars, the first pull you do out of the LC, save 1cc and put it in the fridge. (in the syringe)
Draw again with other syringes and complete your jars and grow them out.
If anything desirable pops up, take that 1 CC and inject it into clean LC or agar. NEVER EVER transfer liquid cultures to other cultures with out growing them out first.

That may work to clean trich but it looks like he got hit with bacteria right?
90 minutes @ 15 psi is not long enough for most bags. 6 qt bags? Shit I don't know how long that would take but it seems like it should be a minimum 3 hours haha. That's a shit ton of spawn

i would blame the LC as well. put the LC on some agar and clean it up.

My 5qt bags get pc'd for 3 1/2 hrs.
Cook a control bag and don't inoculate it and see if it contains and you will know.

Trich in grains is 99% from the inoculate. Trich spores die from temps of 130 f in 30 min. Pasteurization temps kill them. LC is safest whem inoculated with a visibly clean agar wedge

Hi Ty
Pasty, I had 99% typed out, and I thought I was just being a bit to overbearing.. I knew I was not. I like to give the new ones some confidence :P, that 8%!
