Spores are stressing me out man...

Hey guys, so for some reason my last few attempts at making spore syringes and liquid cultures have seemingly failed. For some odd reason I have just forgotten how to do this. I can't even get the spores off of the print
Just give me some tips or something guys, this is stressing me so much more than it should.

I realized when I was trying to scrape the spore off the foil it wasn't exactly working so I flipped the foil over my shotglass to get the spores to fall in.

Spore Syringe video
hope this video link helps and I use the chisel blade type for the exacto. the blade almost looks like a really thin flat head screwdriver. works great.

Here is how I do syringes from my own grows:

I use to use my 1/2pint short jars, but these disposable ones work really well too.

in the video I posted it shows him doing the syringe in front of a flowhood but a SAB will work great as well
I also prefer a torch for flame sterilizing over anything else. just my opinion
remember a spore syringe is also not 100% contam free. and a little bit of spores off the print goes a long way!
happy growing

That video is terrible.....the shot glass and all the tools used should have been sterilized....not sanitized with an unsterile substance.......secondly he scraped off 1000x more spores than actually needed, making the syringe extremely dark, then said much less spores should have been used.....well how much less exactly? Don't know, because he didn't say.....Is all that sucking up and expunging the spores neccesary? No. Not at all. If I was a noob watching that video, I would be left with more questions than answers.....just sayin
He also flame sterilized the needle, then wiped it with alcohol.....
Wiping a flame sterilized tool with an unsterile substance like alcohol is like wiping shit on your face after a shower.
He used a blade when a loop should have been used......I can keep going but it's getting redundant....lol

how sterile is a spore syringe? how sterile is a print? if things are clean and flame sterilize as a last step (yes he was dumb for wiping the needle) but how do you get a 100% clean spore syringe? even if you pressure cooked all your equipment the print is still not 100% clean. that is why agar is the mycologist man's best friend.

I love you pussy fart, but the fact is all the items you mentioned are fantastic to note, but not "required" for someone making a spore syringe for the firts time.
We need to be a little less harsh with our new cultivators when we guide them toward new technique's. The reason PF Tek is amazing is due to how simple it is for new growers. If a new cultivator were to read your post they would automatically assume it's a very difficult task to be successful with making their own syringes. For a year I open air created spore syringes on foil and maintained an upward of 90% success rate.

Not sterile, but aseptic.....and most of the time they are not, because they have been fruited in open air......but not taking the right steps will just add to the possible contam count, and doing that makes no sense.....we want to minimize the possibility of contams, not increase it....

It's hard....but possible.
Growing invitro is one way.....if the caps are never exposed to open air, they are clean.....
Quote:

Right....lets make sure it remains the only thing that is not 100% clean....

If they read my post and they thought that PCing the "the right tools" and not wiping them with alcohol is "very difficult", then this might not be the hobby for them.

I only grow for personal consumption, so a 10% loss is not a factor in my grow techniques.
However, in my business if I ran a report and found a 10% profit loss due solely to lazy work in my organization my head would explode.

some of my cleanest mycelium has been when I just scrape a little spores with my xacto an touch it to the agar. no syringe or extra stuff needed. just a flame sterilized xacto. with the fully colonized clean agar plate I make a liquid inoculant and turn 7 quart jars colonized in 9 days (that is my best speed so far!) they are fruiting right now

I don't know why I didn't think about have a jar print! How many syringes do you usually make with that? Or do you just make like super dark syringes?
And I do prefer to have a higher chance of success. I'm probably gonna make 10 plates in the morning, then.
From trying and failing, and fucking up my prints, I've lost 2 varieties of cube prints (only had 1 each) I still have one print thats as big as my palm though. and getting some other psilocybe species in the mail.
Okay I have 2 non-related questions, will plastic petri dishes melt in the PC? I don't really like pouring them, but I will if I have to. And also, I've been keeping the jars all in plastic baggies, what's the best way to store them so they don't get contaminated, especially since the last ones started growing trich on the edges.

What jars are you keeping in baggies, and why? Don't they have lids??

I was keeping my agar petri dishes in baggies I was wondering if there was a better way to store them, as they all got trich (a week or 2 later but before myc could completely colonize)

I make, on average, about 10 syringes per standard 1" print. Darker printer result in more.
