John Kerry gets my vote
    #2169106 - 12/08/03 02:20 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I was watching MSNBC and they had a stroy about how John Kerry*sp?* had an interview with some magazine where he said "he didn't think that the Bush administration would fuck up so badly in Iraq." Ofcourse, all the uptight white house staff condemned him for using an explitive, but the cool thing is he refused to appologize. Most politicians would immediately release some fake apology, but this guy refused to kiss ass. I think that is cool

Kerry would lock you up for using drugs if he could.

In this case, you're right. I just checked his campaign website and he specifically mentioned something about being tough on drugs.

Not necessarily wrong, but you do have a tendency to oversimplify things like this.

How could anyone make something like this more complicated?

He either would or wouldn't like to have you locked up for drugs. Easy.

I'm afraid it's not that simple, actually. Why don't you tell me what you think John Edwards' stand on drugs is?

Obviously, I'm referring to the candidate. Anyway, if you go to his campaign website, you see that he's somewhat on the middle ground on drugs. He's not about to go decriminalize marijuana, but he says he favors expanding drug treatment for addicts, rather than sending them to prison, and he also says he'll address the unjust sentencing disparity between crack and cocaine. So would he have you locked up for drugs? Depends on the circumstances. He's certainly not a die-hard drug warrior, tho.

See, that's what I mean when I say you oversimplify this issue. It's all or nothing with you. Real progress doesn't happen all at once. As things stand now, the American public wouldn't possibly elect someone who wanted to decriminalize weed, but they would probably be willing to elect someone who brings about some more moderate reforms to our drug laws, like sending users to rehab instead of jail, or reducing penalties for non-violent offenders, or respecting state medical marijuana laws.

The magazine was Rolling Stone by the way. It is obvious to me that he was just trying to sound cool for all the young people who read the magazine. It was a maneuver to get your vote. It stirred up controversy and brought his name out more.(He was starting to fall behind in the media) Wake up people.

"Whoa, he said fuck? Cool"

I'm not oversimpifying. I'm being unrealistic.

I'm sick of waiting for America to catch up. Legalize all drugs right now. I'll settle for nothing now, and i'll settle for nothing later.

What is Howard Dean's stance on Prohibition?
