I get to the grocery store and realize that I can't get a decent piece of meat for under 7$.... I'm like WTF... 7$ MINIMUM for something decent... A big T-bone, 12$....
I don't nw wtt ealyp haened in the farming industry to justify these insane prices but I want to know if it's just me or have you guys noticed a sharp increase in the price of your groceries.
mmwell?
Oh please. Chicken is going up in price because of an outbreak of avian flu (yes, they get flu too) and the have to be destroyed. Eggs are going up in price too and I'm sure you can guess why. But hey, if you want to eat diseased chicken, be my guest.

Strange. Chicken still is decently priced here.
I just bought eggs today for 1.88$ per dozen

It probably hasn't gotten up there up. And maybe your food setup is different. Here, we have huge "factory farms" where chickens are raised by the millions in tiny cramped cages. When something like this hits, it spreads like wildfire. Plus, I'm sure they're not exactly in good health, so that doesn't help the situation much either.

I'm gonna bump this thread because what I have seen today is atrocious.
An average steak of average quality: 13$.
A good cut of meat: 21$... Twenty one fucking dollars... I could not believe it. I ask the butcher WTF was going on and it's like that for every meat. I saw a 20 pack of boneless chicken thighs for 23$. That's easily twice than what I paid for it last time I bought chicken thighs. It's price gauging at this point.
Fuck meat. Beans it is. 78 cents a can. Meat will price itself outside of mainstream consumption. It's soon gonna be a luxury item.

just like it used to be and should be if we followed our evolutionary diet. i personally would love to give up meat but i find it very hard to continue without lots of food preparation time.
good cuts of meat of quality is basically 20 per pound here, you can get it much less but the lack of quality is noticeable.
it is so crazy how much food we waste and how much we charge for it. we will just continue to bury our head in the sand and keep eating meat like additives.

The shitty dollar has a lot to do with it (thanks trudea) and also the cattle industry has had a couple bad years and there has been less supply.

If I want cheap meat I shop at the Asian markets. My favorite is T&T grocery store. Their produce is all like 50% less than other places and the quality is good too. Many "western" grocery stores are unionized and they charge noticibky higher prices, that's also part of it.

As long as there's a market, there'll be cattle ranches. But in any case, it's just as well. It's not sustainable in the long run.

new york strips are on sale around here this week. one place has them for 6.99/lb and another has them for 9.99/lb. filet mignon is at the usual 22.99/lb at the store i usually go to. there are a couple meat markets around here that are out in the middle of nowhere(practically) and their steaks are expensive.

here's a little tip, the smaller the grocery store the cheaper the food is, at least around here thats the way it is. also gas stations are suprizingly cheap for some things as well. Something about that great big lot and upkeep i think with the large grocery, but one would also think they would have access to better bulk prices as well. You can buy local meat for the price of the large store price. But the thing i hate about the local meat is the little bastereds only sell to u if u agree to use 'their' butcher shop who obviously gets a share in the profits which is the only reason i don't buy local. If im buying a quarter of meat i want that leg thrown in the back of my pickup, ill drive that shit home and chop it up myself, not pay some goofball $100 to chop it up on his bacteria infested countertops or soaked in bleach and mixed in with the last 20 goofball orders
