I have a few questions

First: is the pressure cooker a must or can one use a pot with a lid and something to put space between the bottom of the pot and jars. The reason I ask is I read various ways of doing this sterilization with either a pot or pressure cooker. What do you guys think?
Second: what are the names of the 3 toxic mushrooms that people get confused with cubes, due to the bruising blue or just direct me to the forum in here that describes them. thank you
Third: do any of the sponsor here ship to a p.o. box?
Thank You for your time And your responses

1st: Back when I grew some shrooms (years ago), I tried sterilizing with a regular pot as you described a well as with a microwave oven. The former gave mixed results, the latter resulted in consistent contamination. Cyst-forming bacteria can withstand quite a lot.
2nd: There's not a clearly defined set of 3 toxic mushrooms that are generally confused with cubes. What I've seen happen is people confusing agaricus species with cubes (some are toxic but not dangerously so, some are perfectly edible), stropharia cyanescens (again not dangerously toxic) due to its blueish tint which is different from blue bruising, and in the Southern US, beginners sometimes mistake chlorophyllum molybdites for cubes (again, toxic but generally not lethal). The risk of confusion is associated primarily with the knowledge and experience of the hunter, not so much with the mushrooms. I've seen people mistake inactive or toxic species for actives that bear virtually no resemblance to each other.
3rd: don't know, ask them.

I can only answer question 1. If you use the brown rice flour (pf) method you can just use a water bath to sterilize. If you intend to use rye berries they contain endospores which can live through a waterbath so you will need a pc to kill them. Not sure about other grain or bird seed cuz i haven't used them. Good luck.

My mixed results with the water bath were with brf cakes. So it's not a guarantee it'll work.

Thank you, everyone. I will be using pf tek method at first and I'll be on the look out for a deal on a pressure cooker. I was trying to pinch a few pennies that's why I asked.
I was able to get a sender for spores so I'm good. Also I have a co-worker who's uncle has pastures and has given me permission. I have put together a check list on finding cubes by focusing on its key features to reduce error. I know it sounds noobish. Anyway thanks
Anymore tips will be greatly appreciated.
Good day

Take pics of your find and post them in Mushroom Hunting & Identification .

Will do it always good to have someone with experience see something that I might have missed. Will do. Who is a good vendor with decent prices and is trust worthy?

What a strange question to ask... Did Shroomery become a game show? Are there prizes involved in this thread?

You can buy a cheapo one on Amazon for like 20 bucks. But if you're planning on staying with this hobby it would be wise to invest in a nice big cooker

Why yes my fine sir, If you answer correctly you could win a life time supply of..... (drum roll).....Amanita phalloides also known as death cap. And 1 ton of sterilized cow shat sprayed with anti-fungal. I asked cause it is brought up in the hunters identification for cubensis. I also searched and found some members talking about it but never mention the names. Thanks for playing!lol
