have you ever almost died in an accident?
    #21695880 - 05/18/15 08:21 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

I have.

(1) Like 20 years ago, I was at Hershey Park and riding the swinging pirate ship in the very back for maximum fright, and at the apex, I could feel myself sliding around the bar with a fall imminent.  At the last moment, the dude next to me who I didn't know slammed his arm into my chest and saved my life.  I hit the height requirement but I guess I was too skinny for the bar to go down enough.

(2) Last year, on Long's Peak, I got waaaay off route trying to find a shortcut back to this flat part called The Boulder Field and I popped out of the ridgeline at the "false keyhole," which is basically a sheer 200 foot drop.  To get down, I had to shimmy along this very very very narrow ledge over a narrow trail with a several hundred foot drop a few feet over like 100 yards back to safety.  Someone died doing that exact same thing a week later.

(3) A couple years ago, I was drunk as shit moseying around town and I almost walked in front of a speeding car.  The roads are extremely narrow and the parked cars had blocked my view of the car so I just went.   Maybe a second before impact, my buddy tugged me back to the curb.

Any similar tales?

i was offroading on a bunch of somas one eveneing when i flipped my jeep 6 times down the side of a mountain. luckily i had my window open and a rock wedged itself in between the windscreen and the roll bar stopping us from another 6-7 foot drop which by that time we were rolling engine over back axle.

pretty sure it would have gone up in flames.

the insurance company demanded that my friend and i both go down and show proof of live.  they didnt believe anybody survived the accident.

we both walked out without a bruise.

i didnt drive for a week after that incident.

Whitewater rafting accident for me. Actually it was the most dangerous whitewater class you could do. AFter the fact they told me no one has ever fallen out without getting seriously injured and a few deaths had occurred. It had been my 5th year whitewater rafting, I was a competition swimmer, before the accident in pretty awesome shape. I was also very seasoned and trained to understand whitewater rapids which helped save my life. Also because it was so dangerous I was required to wear protective boots(which saved my feet) and helmet which saved my life

I was dragged 550 yards under 3 feet of water with only a few seconds of breath in a 6 minute incident. So I was drowing whilst my legs, arms and torso were being shredded like ribbons by razor sharp rocks, several tons boulders, hitting them at 30 mph or so but after I went into shock I knew if I didn't get a few seconds of air I would drown before anyone in the raft could save me. So how I got the few moments of breathe was I knew I would stay underwater if I was going down the river vertically.

So as I was being flipped and turned like a piece of paper flying out a car window I couldn't do anything but try and get my bearings which was impossible whilst being torn down the river under so much water as such fast speeds. So when we came to a part with not as many rocks and therefore not as fast a current I sat up as hard as I could and saw where I was on the river. I made a spit second decision to swim horizontally instead of vertically. I grew up around beaches and such and I knew when you get caught in undertow and it takes you the best way to get out of it is to swim horizontally.

I knew that trick wouldn't get me out of the severity of my situation like undertow and I could have been swimming away from the raft into more deadly rocks. I had to do it though because I hadn't gotten a breath before I was pulled under the current on our drop in for the 550yard lvl 5. So when I got the second breath I thought I was going to make it but I slammed face and chest first into a giant boulder shortly after the knocked what little air I had out of me.

At that point, things got dark, I remember not having much pain but thinking about the newscast telling of and 18 year old being maimed and drowned to death, on that river that day. I thought of my family, then I saw the river and my body as if I were watching my situation from the clouds.

I thought this is it,my untimely death as I inhaled water, just before I passed out I saw a bright yellow light that looked like an ore handle but it was so blurry and I had nothing left in me but I grabbed the ore and passed out. Apparently I was given C.p.r., I was completely naked when they pulled me back in the boat. I woke up to pure horror and they explained what happened and how amazed they were at my reactions and that I saved myself in a way.

I could move my toes but not my bloodied, bruised and just FUCKED up knees ,back, ribcage, brain etc. They asked if I wanted a heli-lift out of there. I said put some anti bacterial on all my open wounds, give me my pit brownie I brought for pain and I can tuck my swollen legs in the side of the raft until we finished the river. I became the stuff of legends at that place, however I just thought it was a reasonable way to get down the river. I had just escaped death. I felt if I could do that I could do anything and I did finish the river. I got applauded by every raft on the river that day. They made a T-shirt in my honor called the Upper Klamath swim team..

In all reality I now have knee and back pains from it and I'll have to live with that the rest of my life but I truly escaped death so it could have gone the worst possible way it could have gone but it didn't.

To this day I will not whitewater raft, I got back on the horse t finish the river and get medical attention but after that, it was the end of my whitewater rafting career. It's still a tad traumatizing to even write this but I've moved on from it.

I was hit by a car that was going 40 if that counts lol, they drove away without ever checking on me but somehow I walked away with almost nothing. (I was on skates when they hit me, not in a vehicle)

One other time, we were coming up to a light where you could only go left or right, my friends told me to go left, and just because I'm a dick I went right, a really old man in a truck who was behind me got in the left lane to turn left, when the light turned green, he got halfway through the intersection, got tboned and died right in front of us, that would of been me if I wasn't a douche and went left like my friends said.

Hit head on by International truck hauling a load of ice cream. Popped me out of the truck onto the road. Foot got caught on the way. Permanent ankle damage. Broken femur. 2 broken ribs, Torn Aorta, repaired with a Dacron graft. Cracked skull, 9 day coma. 9 weeks in traction. Torn diaphragm, stomach crammed partway into my chest cavity. Died twice, brought back. Doc told my mother I had a 6% chance of living and that if I did live, the odds were 50 - 50 that I'd never walk again. Used a walker for several months, cane after that for almost a year.

Ditto.  I been told I died twice in one accident.  They told my family that when I wake up I'll be a vegetable.  They didn't think my brain could go with out oxygen as long as it did.  I bled out twice.  I think I had an out of body experience. I remember seeing myself on the table with doctors and nurses pulling out my intestines looking for the laceration they missed in the first surgery.  Maybe its just a vivid imagination I don't know.  Can't really explain that.  It was like a clip from a scene in a movie.  Where I watched them operating on me.  Then I guess they found the hole fixed it and gave me a transfusion. They pulled 2 liters of blood out of my stomach cavity.
