So a cop just left a card on my doorstep

Said she's a backround investiagtor and left a number to call. How bad is this? I live in a really white neighborhood so I doubt it's for my neighbors. Would they leave a card or just bust down my door?
Doesn't sound good to me

Unless you actually have information that would be useful to them you don't mind sharing there is no reason to call.

I think it would be safer to call the number, ya know the closer you are to harm, the farther you are from danger type thing.
I would rather know what was coming my way, than have my door kicked in, wouldn't you?
I don't know if you have been selling any drugs, but maybe someone got arrested and snitched on you.

I believe they would probably want to talk to you, that is all. Don't stress it though, but think about this seriously, how's it going to look if you don't call and your name has come up to them?

this I've had detectives yell me " we know what really happen " and " your friend told us everything" they also told me if I was honest they could seriously help me in time... the bastards and to think I,almost crumbled... anyways they kept asking me to go down to the station, for a talk.... I ignored them and they never bothered me again... I would still call OP just to see. what dirt they have on me

They may have you on camera doing something bad. This happened to me a couple years ago. They left the card on my front door. There was no denying the camera footage and witnesses saying I was there. I had blacked out drunk and on etizolam and kicked some flower pots.

Yeah. Despite how dumb people think LEO are, they aren't going to be building a secret case against you, just to blow it by tipping you off with a card. In the worst case, they'll probably say: "Tell us about XXX" or "Tell me where you were on XXX date."
Don't answer, and you'll at least know what they're digging for.

Ask your neighbours if they got a card too.
I mean, how do u know if its specifically for you?
Have u been doing anything illegal, like selling stuff, in your apartment? Maybe out in the real world.

Well, first figure out what you've done. What have you done?
If you have nothing to worry about, then you dont have anything to worry about.
Is there any damage control you could do before calling?
Personally, I'd call because I'd rather know.

yeah i would rather know.. personally i would borrow someones phone from work and give the number a shout or something along those lines.
its probably nothing. i was called by a detective one time to say that a church had been robbed and all my school stuff was scattered around the church.
all she said was i know it wasnt you due to all the awards/certs i had in my backpack and said you can come pick up your shit at this location

I'm really curious about your situation. I doubt an actual law officer would leave a calling card.
I would certainly call if I was in that position though. You don't have to answer any questions.

Nope, nope nope. Cops have neat little tricks to get you hang yourself, even if you did nothing. It's one of the many varied reasons our prison population is so high. I'm not saying everyone in prison is an innocent angel- many do deserve to be there, but in a nation that supposedly values justice and freedom the amount of falsely convicted people is astonishingly high. It's outrageous and obscene. Our justice system is seriously broken.

Youd think if they had anything they wouldnt just leave a card that like tipping you off hey were looking out you. wouldnt be smart on the cops end.
But just to be safe you should clean house. bury shit in mason jars if you have to. (unde3rground is perfect temp for storing foods! keep moisture out)

Yeah the bartender cut me off and I guess I got upset. The cops chased me into some trees by the river and put dogs on me. I sat it out for a few hours and walked home. It would have been real shitty if they got me at the bar. I walked away with a criminal mischief charge, can't go in that bar ever again, 2 years bench probation, and had to complete a drug/alcohol class. Oh I had to pay for the flower pots too. Basically I just called him up and told him when I was coming in. He handed me a citation and I went home. I got finger printed after my court arraignment.

I bet even local pd goes around to check out the background of their new hires. Maybe one of your neighbors wants to be a cop

If you're on their radar for something it's already too late. If they want to track you, they will. The only way to keep them from doing it is not to end up on their radar to begin with.

Be cautions. As of right now you have no obligation to talk to anyone. How would I cover my tracks if I was up to something sketchy? Stay quiet, buy things in cash, avoid technology-all technology-cameras and heavily populated places.
These are general rules of thumb, but they are much more effective before the cops have you on their radar.

Stay off their radar it's as simple as that. Everything you do that could land you on it, ask yourself if it's really worth it. If you decided to do something that got you on it, and you get caught up, you knew that was the risk when you did it.
There is no way to be safe short of that. Everything is a risk, calculated or not.

Everything may be a risk, buy some things are just obvious no-nos. I read a thread the other day, some guy got caught because he kept tracing the package that was being sent to him from China using the USPS website.

There are ways to stay low key & safe. It's really easy actually, all you have to do is think of the worst possible thing that could happen if something was to go wrong. Then ask yourself, "is it really worth the risk" Your gut feeling is usually correct. Even if it's a small chance that it could happen, remember... all it takes is that one out of 100 times & you're fucked forever. If you want to stay out of trouble when it comes to doing this kind of stuff you have to be paranoid. This means stuff like... don't smoke pot outdoors because your neighbors will smell it. You may think "oh it's just weed" but I'm guessing you have more than just a little bit of weed. And in that case, any unwanted attention is BAD. Don't have cars constantly coming to your house & friends/people coming & going all the time. Even if you aren't selling it can be considered suspicious. DO NOT SELL drugs-to anybody. If you aren't willing to do the time then don't do the crime-I'm serious about that. Why risk years of your life over a drug deal making small money that you could easily make at a normal job in X amount of hours. Don't carry drugs on you. Seriously, I don't know how many times I have watched the show COPS where someone gets busted for drugs during a simple traffic stop. Don't be so trustworthy with people. This means don't let them know you have X amount of so & so drugs. You'd probably be surprised how many people will talk just to save their ass. Be cautious with what you say, who you associate with, where you do drugs, & so on.

Long ago when I was growing I had a gf that would get paranoid at the sound of sirens when we were high. I always told her, "don't worry, if they were coming here they wouldn't be running the sirens".
This may be nothing, but that being said I have also executed a couple of clean-downs based upon odd clues and bad intuition. Clean domicile and clean car = good sleep.
The risk If there is one is probably something not yet done. If you are on the radar don't get pulled carrying, it won't matter if your taillight is not really broken or if the car doesn't really smell like weed. Personally would be inclined to be sure I didn't have anything at home beyond personal weed, if that. Don't forget scales or other stuff that could be used for "manufacture".
If you do suffer an unwanted interaction, don't say anything about anything. Haven taken some advance precaution and knowing exactly where you stand is good (though again, STFU if police).
It is probably nothing and perhaps your worst case is not so bad (I.e., anything you do or have done does not have that bad a potential consequence). But, depending upon one's hobbies, it may be very important to have a contingency plan for times like these, and be willing to execute it rapidly when called for.

Just because you call them on the phone doesn't obligate you to answer any questions of theirs. In fact, if they are contacting you for questioning then calling them on the phone puts you in a way better position. It's a HELL of a lot better than waiting and dodging them, and finally being interviewed face to face then coming up short on good answers with no way out.
I think you should call the number. For all you know it's harmless, and you being sketch about it could be a reason they start snooping around in your life.

The guy who got caught tracking his package on USPS didn't get caught solely because of that, no one has ever been caught solely because of that, they were already investigating him, and he managed to leave them a nice little trail since it records your IP address when you track a package....they knew he was going to be getting drugs, now they have proof he knew drugs were coming to him because he tracked a drug filled package.
It's always about leaving a trail, any slip up you make, will become evidence if not well hidden. and even then, it doesn't matter how you slipped or how hidden it is, if they want you bad enough, they'll find your slip and use it against you.

It's really dependent on the individual situation, the usps tracking thing for example, they are heavily looking for anyone involved in dark net activities and especially people transporting large amounts of drugs through a federal mailing system....something like that, if they open up a pack/package gets ripped/someone gest tipped off, they might let it go through and check to see if anyones monitoring the package or who comes to pick it up....they might of never known who you were before that, but now they have a package with a shit ton of drugs and proof you knew what was in it because your IP was logged when you checked tracking, if it isn't enough to get you in court, they'll just watch you for a while until they build a case.
BUT major drugs are being shipped through USPS daily, so there are fuck tons of people who are doing it and no one has a clue, there always needs to be a trail for them to follow and sometimes that trail is completely out of your hands and nothing you could of done to prevent it, like in USPS case, a vendor fucking up your packing and smells/poor stealth makes it obvious what it is, not in your control, but most likely has your name on it, and is going to a place you designated, even if they arrested you picking it up, as long as you were smart, you could definitely get away with it even in court, but would almost definitely have eyes on you for a while after that.
If you're dealing out of your house, one person getting caught and ratting you out might be all it would take for them to start building a case against you, or maybe a few people get caught and all drop your name, and now they'll be watching you, it always revolves around the trail youre leaving.
They could know 100% you are guilty, but knowing, and proving it, are two different things, in court they need proof, and if they want you bad enough, they will wait as long and be as thorough as they have to in order to get enough proof against you to fuck you.
Burner phones, only dealing with select few people, making sure you never write it over FB and all that.
It also depends what kind of agency is looking for you, if it's your local PD, they probably aren't going to grab all of your computers and run a forensic sweep of your house and go through the whole 9 yards to get you so as long as you keep your mouth shut and don't have any evidence lieing around you might be good, but if you're dealing major weight on a major scale, then we're probably talking FBI or DEA, you better of been flawless for a three letter group like them, because if they want you, they'll find a way.
I'm certainly no lawyer, but have educated myself a lot on situations like this since I am a paranoid person by nature, if you could narrow down what kind of activity you were engaged in without saying it straight out, I might be able to tell you more of what to expect or how to avoid run ins, plus based off your other post, you have in mind you might be raided I'm guessing, I know how that goes too. Until then it's a guessing game. Or PM me about it if you don't want it posted in an open forum that anyone can read.

I mean if you have any slight notion that anything you say to the police is potentially incriminating, keep your mouth shut. The police oftentimes hate that they can't compel people to talk, but they can't, and there is a very good reason for this. The right to remain silent is not just beneficial to criminals. Anything you say to the police can be used against you in court, guilty or not guilty, there is rarely a reason to give them anything at all to use.
I would ignore it myself. If someone wants to talk to me they can call me or leave an actual message that might incline me to want to call. Don't allow them to intimidate you into doing something you don't want to do, that is what they do and they will use whatever backhanded tricks they can to work around things like your right to remain silent. Just throw out the card and pretend you never saw it.

the one thing I can almost say for sure, if you're in a situation where you think you're getting raided, they would not be leaving cards, they would not bother talking to you, that door would be coming down and you'd be in cuffs, if they want to talk to you and it's about you, it means they don't have enough to arrest you and are hoping you'll say something that will give them enough to do so.
If you're going to get raided, you won't know it, if they already have enough for a warrant, there is zero need to talk to you, they'll just be coming. and if they are that fucking dumb to leave a card and are still going to raid you, take it as a blessing, and clean house while you can, dban your computers if you have incriminating evidence, get rid of all drugs/scales, EVERYTHING, even cash associated with trades, and then wait.

They can only use what you say if they read you your rights, which means you're already under arrest.
Unless you dumb enough to admit a crime while talking to them, you can talk safely. If it wasn't the case, every elderly people they talk to would be in jail for something....
You have rights and shit. A consitution too. Helping cops actually makes you look better in their eyes. Acting like a paranois asshole that doesn't want to answer "how are you today" without a lawyer makes you look suspicious as fuck.
At some point you have to realize that their job isn't to throw absolutely everybody in jail no matter what...
Unless of course, the US has actually sunk to gestapo levels of policing... In which case, do the smart thing, move to canada.

they can still use whatever you say whether you are under arrest or not.
best video there is on how to deal with talking to police, and why speaking to them at all is a bad idea.
Theres a reason the prison population of the united states is one of the highest in the world/if not the highest.
They don't have to read you your rights, it's your job to know your rights, and what you can and can't say and what you can and can't do and when. It can literally help unbelievably, and the words "are you detaining me or am I free to go" has helped me avoid talking to police countless times, and it's a line almost no one knows or knows when to use, and that's only one of hundreds of things you can do to give yourself power.
Like invoking your fifth amendment right, I don't remember how, but just staying quiet doesn't put that right into effect, you literally have to say outloud "I am invoking my fifth amendment right to remain silent" or else your silence can be used against you. I hope a lawyer chimes in because I know I'm not 100% correct on everything and would love for them to correct me lol.
Most people odn't even know that you don't even have to be polite to the police unless you are in a vehicle and get pulled over or unless they have probable cause of a crime, otherwise you can literally tell them to piss off and they have zero power over you, but everyone thinks cops can do whatever they want, NOPE they can do whatever you let them do, and they'll do anything you let them unless you establish otherwise. I know my rights perfectly but only applies in my state since I know it varies on a state to state basis.
Cops have to follow the law as well, and if they don't, that evidence gets thrown out, so know what you can and can't do, and if they void those rights, let them and don't resist, and let the lawyer take care of it in court, but you should always know all of your rights and how/when to apply them.
Another video that can help when you don't wish to deal with police.
Both very helpful, but always make sure to double check with your own states laws too and make sure everything applies.

Just did that. I'm going to eat breakfast and call my lawyer and see what he says. Then call the Murderer department of hell.
This was pretty useful though his videos have some good info in them. As well as the flex your rights videos

I've had two similar situations happen to me. Both left a card/note at my front door.
First time - they wanted me to call so I did and it was about my neighbor down the street who was joining the military and they wanted like a character background, Idk how they ever knew that we used to hang out but I just said he was a good guy and they never called again.
Second time - It was about me. The guy acted like a cop but he was really some slimy private investigator trying to come after me because someone I knew hired him for it. I denied to answer any of his bullshit questions so his boss contacted me at work and I told him that he and his goon can stay off my property and are to never contact me again. They tried to dig some more but they failed. Fuckin assholes.

They didn't pick up so around and around we go. If they don't show up at my casa today I'll feel a tiny bit better.

Now they have confirmation that you're where they are sure to find you. Consider your door kicked..

From what I understand the card wasn't addressed to him directly though...it could have been dropped on everybody's doorstep in the neighbourhood for all we know.
Police aren't dumb enough to leave a card out before they pull a raid. You gotta give them some credit.

I thought this way and they showed back up a few weeks later. It's better to get ahold of them on your terms rather than getting some incidental charge added on as well when you're not expecting them to show up. That's what my lawyer told me.

Curious to see how this plays out. I'd put money on it being something mundane that has nothing to do with you personally, but it can't hurt to be safe just in case.

OP: (dials number)..... Cops: Hello, local police how I can I help you? OP: My address is ***, you left a card Cops: Oh yes. One of your neighbros lawn gnomes got tipped over 3 nights ago, I was wondering if you saw anything...

I'm with Dr. P.
It's just a background investigator who's going to ask generic questions about OP's:
- Neighbor
- relative
- friend
- coworker

I seriously wouldn't be concerned until I had a reason to be concerned.
But, something like this will get you back on your toes, especially if you've been too comfy with your lifestyle.
Haven't had this particular scare before, but similar.

Hey man. Call the number... Ask why they left the note on your doorstep. Never answer a question. Always ask them. The only time you should answer to a question should be another question. Never give them anything. Not even your name.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
