What do you guys recommend? I wake up pretty stiff every morning and usually never sleep through the night. Ive herd many times this could be from the bed I sleep on. I have a king size pillow top that is probably 12 or so years old. Have any of you bought a memory foam or a select comfort or anything along those lines & just been blown away?

i've had a twin size Posturepedic for about 5 years, its still a great matress. not particularly expensive either
i weigh 220, and am still comfortable lying on my side with this matress even though its kind of old by now
hotel matresses are miserable though, i have to lay on my back or stomache. if i lay on my sides on a cheap matress, i will wake up with my shoulders and back feeling like shit

Do a bit of research here

Most well known mattress brands are overpriced garbage, you can get higher quality mattresses for cheaper at some stores (I got mine at a local mattress store).
I have a memory foam, I like it. Only problem is memory foam doesn't have the longest life and will get soft over time if you sleep in the same spot. Honestly the best bang for your buck option imo would be to get a cheaper very firm spring mattress and put a nice memory foam topper on top of it so when you wear it out you can get another topper. Also you won't be sol if you get a memory foam that is too soft or firm you'll be buying a different topper instead of a different mattress.
Just do your research.

thanks for the link. i wasn't sure how to go about doing any research on a mattress as I figured everything I looked up would be biased towards their own product.
going to a mattress store and laying on different mattresses just doesnt cut it foe me either. I need to be able to sleep on a mattress for couple nights to know if i like it, not just lay on it for ten minutes

King size mattresses are so damn expensive. I just bought a new queen mattress this past year and it was close to $500 with tax. Just a regular, inner spring mattress.
I love the memory foam ones, though. Next time I have to replace it I'm going with one of those (Sealy's I think is the brand) mattresses.

Definitely this. I had an atrocious bed that you literally could not sleep on due to the springs poking you. I plopped a Serta mattress topper on it and good to go. You don't get weird looks from women because you actually have a bed. I now have a mattress topper on the floor and it feels exactly the same. I just don't have that bed look so I get weird looks. Don't really give a fuck. I'd rather spend that $500 on a Mountain Hardware EV2 winter tent.
