Roly polies decimating my patch! D:

Okay guys. So I have this area that I've been tossing all my spent/contaminated cakes. And today I saw my first mushroom! And it was covered in holes...
These roly polies, pill bugs, wood bugs, whatever have eaten my shrooms. And they are eating my exposed mycelium too from a cake I dumped
Do I just oblige and let these insects trip balls? Have I now created a bunch of hippy polies? Did I make a bunch of psilocybin junkies?
But seriously, Is there anyway to get them not to murder my innocent shrooms? They come by the dozens and lay around and just eat. I swear they aren't just coming for the food anymore

Fuckin free loaders...they will probably write a book about how an other worldly being brought them this amazing Trans dimensional fruit of the gods and call you "God" in it.

The actives that affect us in the mushrooms probably don't do anything to the bugs. Slugs and bugs will feast on mushrooms that would kill humans.

I'm having a similar issue with raccoons, in my garden, along with the sow bugs n slugs! Beeing a higher life form, I wonder if they're getting high?

I'm not sure man.. Because they become more sluggish and do things that I don't see them do, like a bunch of them just sit next to each other and will just lay over each other or whatever really. And sometimes they'll just roll up!
If I'm not correct, don't insects also have serotonin receptors in their brain. I know it's not a huge brain, but it's a brain.
But my real question is this, is there anyway to stop the suckers?

The raccoons are, no doubt, tripping from your shrooms. (if that's what they are going for)

I would love to see some raccoons tripping lol. I think there is some herbs you could plant around them that would naturally keep bugs away. Cause I'm sure you don't want to use pesticides.

Yeah I'd rather not... But plants to keep roly pollies away? What are they?
Oh and one good thing I noticed is that the mushroom came from under the dirt. So that means the mycelium has spread below the soil, so that is good!

I think that the coons are eating the 4 quarts of rye spawn, that I tossed into the mix of spent sub, straw, and worm castings. The bugs n slugs are munching the shrooms...

I'm not sure, I'd just research natural remedies to get repel them or herbs that will.

You could use diatomaceous earth as a barrier around your "Garden". It's ground up shells.

I'll check that out, But how would the insects that are already in stay out?
Oh and anyways I searched it up, insects do have serotonin receptors and therefore can trip of psilocybin. I mean psilocybin does bind to those receptors... I'm now thinking these insects hold parties at my house.
Damn freeloaders...

Well UPDATE. So My patch grew quite a few mushrooms, and I picked around 50 grams wet off of it. I left some others because I already have a butt ton of shrooms.
I checked up on it the next day and the roly polies chopped a mushroom down! They literally completely ate it's base and then like 50 of them were all munching on it. Some serious teamwork took them to get high...
Soon they'll learn to make fire, or hunt or something
But seriously, I've never seen so many roly polies congregate anywhere else other than this patch. I've been checking it daily, and there seem to be a lot that live there permanently now.

Oh also all jokes aside if you really dont want them any more pour some peppermint oil/extract around your patch idk about pollies cause they arnt really insects... But i know mint is a natural (and extremely effective) bug repelent whe have a big ass mint plant here and we hang some of the cuttings from our porch to keep mosquitos at bay in the summer you could plant some mint near your patch but be warned mint is an extremely agressive weed if not controlled it will easily take over a good chunk of where its planted and once established can be a pain to get rid of...
