Mushrooms with Similar Cultivation Needs

Hey All, Been reading a lot about how to cultivate the psilosibies. Thinking I should try with a legal (in US) and hopefully edible strain first. Any suggestions as to something that would need similar growing conditions? Would like to have a legal grow to get some experience without the worry.

IMO, cubensis is one of the easiest mushrooms to cultivate, especially if you're trying to practice growing in the conditions it needs. I'd say try a small tray and grow it. With good sterile technique there's a high chance you'll get a good grow.
Now if you're just looking to grow some type of mushroom, I'd go with oyster mushrooms. They do require different fruiting conditions though. I have a small amount of oysters growing right now and they're pretty easy. But very different conditions than cubes.

oyster mushrooms are easy to grow. You start off on grain like a lot of species including Psilocybe sps. and they're super easy to grow

If you wouldn't mind sparing me research time, could you not grow oysters in a monotub?

You could, but you'd need to mist the sub more often and have no polyfill. Oysters require quite a lot of FAE. Otherwise the stems grow long and the caps grow small. Not perfect for oysters, really.
A better thing would to use a laundry basket, and let it fruit in the open air. Or in a plastic bag with holes stabbed through it. Cubes don't require as much FAE, and can be pretty much left in a monotub to grow.

Good advice....
That is how I've been doing them and they are super easy to grow and I haven't ran into any contam issues either. Probably being oyster mycelium colonizes so damn fast the nasties have a much less chance of taking hold.
