There is a reason for something like what you experienced happening repeatedly. And you know this how?
You have to find out "why". Why do I have to figure out why? Avoidance works quite well with no puzzle to solve.

Sigh. I just know.

Well, for me, the reason I have to find out "why" is because I am on a mission to figure out the meaning of life. So when someone tells me something like what you told me, or told the forum, I think that maybe you are like me, and want to know "why?".
Life is mah-vul-us!!! And the answer is there, or here, or where ever you or whoever is.

I have one thing to say to that...
Patterns=key!

Once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

That is most helpful. Do not many people "just know" things that are completely erroneous?

Yes, that is true. But keep in mind I am not here to tell anyone anything that is true for them. I only know what is true for me. Look, I am pretty smart. I know that I have no way to prove that to you, so please do me a favor and just for this brief second in time, afford me that acknowledgement. So next, I am also intuitive. I have put a lot of things together that weren't taught to me, only to find out that there are entire volumes written on the subject matter of which I intuited. For instance, when I first started trying to figure out the universe, I hadn't read a single book on the subject. One day, I was sitting somewhere, waiting, and in my brief case I had a book that I was going to take to my kids. It was called "The Secret Garden". It was written by a woman approximately 70 years ago, or something like that. She's dead, now. Anyways, in the prologue, which was written by a modern day person, was written the beliefs held by the woman who had originally written the book. I never read prologues!! In the prologue, the writer wrote about the author's belief in the Universe, etc. She wrote about the exact same stuff that I had been learning about, on my own, up until that time. I have been reading stuff and doing internet research on this stuff. What proves to me that I am on the right track is what Ped discusses about karma, as an example. I haven't studied karma at all, but I know that what I have been experiencing is along those lines. Oh, hell. I'm writing on a tangeant (sp?), and I've lost my train of thought. What the hell, Swami, want a beer? I don't drink beer, but I have a glass of wine here....

Well, I know. And I'm supposed to be educated. But I watch for patterns. And the patterns in my life have shown me that there is more to life than what we see.
It is not "you" who sees patterns. The human brain is "hard-wired" to be a "pattern recognition engine". This is highly necessary for short-term survival such as being able to identify a predator even though only seeing a small portion of it in shadow. It is so effective at this that it sees patterns where there are none.
Long-term survival comes from the study of cause-and-effect. For this the initial impression of the brain is woefully inadequate and all-too-frequently wrong.

My statement had nothing to do with you, but about psychology, neurology, and learning. It is only generalized in the way that saying human beings have five fingers per hand is generalized.

How do you separate "you" from the human brain?
Surely there must be some connection...

Yes, that is true. But keep in mind I am not here to tell anyone anything that is true for them. I only know what is true for me. All of what I hold to be true can be demonstrated. 99% of opinions here cannot be demonstrated at all.
Look, I am pretty smart. Your intelligence was never in question. Intelligent people believe in astrology and Slyvia Browne, yet they are still in error.
I know that I have no way to prove that to you, so please do me a favor and just for this brief second in time, afford me that acknowledgement. I acknowledge the sincerity of your belief, but not in the external reality of it.
So next, I am also intuitive. I have put a lot of things together that weren't taught to me, only to find out that there are entire volumes written on the subject matter of which I intuited. I applaud you for that (no facetiousness implied), but that does not speak to any karmic response to your actions.
I don't drink beer, but I have a glass of wine here.... Sure, I enjoy a fine wine thank you. I love the Napa Valley.

Well, even though it was never brought into question, I have never read about Sylvia Browne, and I don't believe in astrology. I mean, it's cute, but I don't give it serious credit.

Well, for me, this had nothing to do with karma. I wasn't even thinking about karma at this point. I was just trying to put together what I was intuiting.

Of course, but there is a distinct difference between the unique persona of "you" and the commonality of all humans.
It is like saying, "I like to breathe." Is it the persona of Swami or the underlying animal structure that "likes to breathe"?

All I have is the evidence in my own life. What I have experienced is not an opinion.
Again, that is not in question, What I question is the assumptions that you have made as to the meaning of these experiences and that is most certainly opinion.
Do I question the lone plane wreck survivor that she is indeed alive against long odds? No. Do I question that she was singled out by God for some special purpose or that it was a miracle? Yes.

The physical body that houses the persona of Swami.
I'm done, and I've decided I won this debate, or 20 questions, or whatever it was.
Oh, and I'm right, too.
