question about wood loving species
    #21693415 - 05/18/15 04:25 AM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Can you use dead tree bark to grow wood loving species? Or would it be best to buy hardwood mulch or hardwood bark mulch for p. Azure

Any type of hard wood.
Sawdust, wood chips, wood chunks, sticks, grass clippings, fallen leaves.

It all works.

Also if I was to buy it what type of mulch would be best. Single double or triple ground mulch. And regular or bark mulch. I would think bark mulch because of the nutrients in it. But not sure about the best consistency. Any help would be appreciated.

I use hard wood fuel pellets...
Go to a wood workers shop and see if they have any scrap hardwood. Sawdust or  wood chips.

Mulch is eh... not what your looking for, but useable.
Bark mulch, single ground. Don't want to worry about compaction too much

So fuel pellets will work by themselves... Or saw dust alone

As long as they are 100% hardwood fuel pellets, yup.

Sawdust alone is good for spawn. But wood chips are best for bed making.

So fuel pellets for spawn and then a 50/50 of hardwood chips and bark mulch work good for the bed? Sound good?
